Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Record selector in Embedded browse

Is it possible when selecting multiple records by dragging on the record selector (in an embedded browse), to use Action scripting to process those records? For instance I want to append those records to another table.

Re: Record selector in Embedded browse

There was a thread on this board maybe a couple of years ago where, I believe, G Gabriel came up with a method to do this. I am still looking for it, but I am not very good at searching this board for old subjects, so I may not ever find it.

One option might be to select them and mark them, and then process the marked records.

I tied it using the example in the Docs for CURRENT_HIGHLIGHTED_RECORDS() on alphasport. It doesn't work in my hands.

              Barry,
you could use a method of marking the first and last record and have a script mark the in between records and copy them to the other table (see example attached).

                Hi Mike,
The script is not necessary. Once you select the records pressing ctrl+m will mark them all.

Re: Record selector in Embedded browse

I use a custom right click menu for an embedded browse - where the user drags to highlight a group of rows, right clicks and makes a selection which then processes a custom script

                  Code:

                        Hi Martin,
I don't know xbasic. So I am working with AS. I can with a button, using AS and marking, mark all the selected records (but it's slow) and continue working with those records. There is something I have to do at the end of the sequence that I don't know how to accomplish. I will upload a video explaining what I am trying to accomplish.

it would also be helpful to attach a copy of your application so we can see what the steps you are taking and what the forms and tables involved are.

If you have several records selected in the browse, is it possible for CURRENT_HIGHLIGHTED_RECORDS() to return the value of a specific field on the first record selected?

It might be easier to add a logical field to your table to display in your browse as a checkbox. Then when you have your highlighted records selected use the right click menu to play a script that will toggle or untoggle the checkbox and also show only checked or all records in the browse. Then you can append only the selected records, and clear the boxes when you are finished. This is another one of those things Alpha does in their dock panels/ dialogs but doesn't share with us!
