Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Does Alpha load completely at start?

When we load alpha, does it loads the whole program at start?
In other word, when we start Alpha, only loads the most important modules and goes back to the hard drive for more as the application needs them or loads the whole thing and never goes back to the hard drive, except for the application needs.

The description of the "network optimization" feature suggests to me that Alpha does not load the entire application into system memory on startup.

So if would created a virtual disk and since we have lots of memory, the processing could be accelerated, could it?
In other words at start up, could we transfer the program into a virtual disk and have it ready to load upon calling it, rather than from the HD. This use to be done in the past as hard drive were slower.
Today HD are faster but we also have added a lot of jobs to do as well.

Mike, I couldn't say. My guess is that the slowest part of your app is the transfer of data over your network, not the time spent fetching program code from the local hard drive.

You may be exploring uncharted territory. Let us know how it goes, but remember how "pioneers" are identified!

If you made a ram drive in memory that is much larger than the data and loaded that data into memory(single user platform), it should increase the speed exponentially. Prolems: if machine shuts down before data is written to disk would lose all work. If 2 people are working on data, somebody would overwrite the other.

Maybe if the data wre on a server in a ram drive(say, r:\drive) then you could access it from there. You would need to have a write to disk set up every few minutes or so to minimize losses if they occur.

Years ago, when we made an exe, it took for ever(like 2-3 hours). Solution = load it all in a ram drive and compile it there. We went and drank a cup of coffee while it worked.

Yes, I remember those days. The loading of data into ram drives, runs the risky factor of PC stopping to work, even when regular writting to disk. That is why I was only looking at the program itself, it that could accelerate the jobs.
Right now the best is add all the ram we can install, keep HD tuned and find all possible tweaks to keep the PC best acting.
I have seen a bunch of tips that I will try and will post results in the near future.
