Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Changes won't stick. What is causing this?

Okay. So I have upgraded from v9 to v11. The following issue I had already in v9, and it still pops up in v11.

On a form, I have an embedded browse.
One of the columns in that browse has a font color "Dark blue". I want to change that to "Black".
So, I double-click the browse, and highlight the specific column. Then right-click the highlighted column and go to "properties", select "Font" and there it is: in the Font Color box in the "attributes section" the font color is specified as: Dark Blue.

So I click the arrow to the right of that box, and instead of "Dark Blue" select: "Black". "Black" appears in the box. I click the "OK" button. Properties box closes, and I am back in the browse with the highlighted column. I click another column to see the result of the previous, but hack, the font is still "Dark blue".

I go back to the "properties" box for that column, but to my suprise the color selected there is still: "Dark Blue".
Can't change it in the properties toolbox as well. That is, I seem to be able to change it, but it simply won't "stick".

I am not able to change it. How come? What to do?

Database is working without problems, has been compacted. I have tried to change the stylesheet in the stylesheet manager but I believe it should have been possible to manually override any setting there by the method described above.

    Hi, Marcel.

I'm not having any trouble with this here, but I'm not using any custom stylesheets. Take a look at this screencast to see what I mean.

Hi Tom. Long time not spoken.... are you ok?

Thank you for taking the efforts to make a screencast for this. Indeed, the problem is, that when I do exactly as you did in the screencast, the changes do not stick. It simply won't change and keeps referring to the "old" setting!

I too have thought in the direction of the stylesheets. I indeed use a custom stylesheet here.

Point is, I have no clue whatever which property in the stylesheet editor reflects the property box setting for font color? There are so many and the stylesheet editor lacks an interactive example like the CSS stylesheet builder does have.

Do you have any clue on exactly WHAT property to change in the stylesheet builder?

Furthermore, I really could understand that the custom stylesheet could be at fault here, but on the other hand, any manual setting in the property box should supersede that, ain't that right?

        Found it!

There was a color equation active on that particular column, that sort of superseded the general font color setting. I should of course have seen that......
However, in case of such a superseding setting, it would be better to grey out the more general setting since it can't be changed anyway.....
Maybe something for the next update.

Thanks Tom, for trying to help out!!
