Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: How to use Browse "event"

Well Martin I havent tried that. Off the top of my head I would try a number of backspaces (which I dont know off the top of my head HOW to do yet -until I needed to)
and I would consider trying to see if a set focus could work.
I'm not as familair with those options perhaps as you probably are. I will play around but if you make any progress please post back.
I just wanted to show how I have applied some actions to a browse field change and to stimulate some other uses.

Re: How to use Browse "event"

This simple method works Martin
Good suggestion - it looks really slick. Just pops back into the required field in the row, already in edit mode (with "E" switch).
In this test it goes to the defaulting lnqty field
Code:
function lncandisc_OnChange as v ()
if browse1:lnqty.value=0
pb=obj("browse1")
pb.Home()
while pb.active() != "LNQTY"
pb.Right()
end while
pb.Activate("E")
end
end if
end function

Re: How to use Browse "event"

In fact only one line is all that is needed using the field's property

Code:
if browse1:lnqty.value=0
pb=obj("browse1")
[B]	pb.lnqty.activate("E") '<<<<<-----
[/B]	end
end if

Re: How to use Browse "event"

unfortunately, it doesn't work for me

I made a test adb and put the code in the events for the embedded browse

if I enter or tab past the field, nothing happens (most likely because I am not "changing" anything)
if I change the field to a value like 10, then it traps the "prior" value
what is needed is can events

if you have several fields in your test adb, enter a new row and just enter or tab through it and see what happens

Correct, there are not can events for at the browse level..

But there are can field events at the field rule level...

ie:
caneditfield.png

so check and see if this fires when you want and add your code there... Probably need to test if the proper field is available as an object...

I'm confused Martin
How do you trigger a can event without change?
If you want to force a field to be non zero it has to be changed. A field rule can simply enforce a value to be entered, no?

Re: How to use Browse "event"

well ... in field rules, in the caneditfield event for the table, at the tare_weight field you can say

Code:
t=table.current()
if t.gross_weight=0
sys_send_keys("{left}")
busy=.f.
end
end if
so ... if they arrive at the tare_weight field, and they skipped the gross_weight field, if will automatically go back to the gross_weight field.

I've been using this approach for quite some time, but was trying to find an additional method.

Excellent, thanks for that.
I was thinking otherwise that level of control (ie just landing on a row field) would have to be done with xdialog
or fast timer checking current object - very clutzy
