Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Field Rule Lookup Open Dialog View

    HI there

I have a lookup on one of my fields of an associated table, but the lookup always opens in full screen and I wish it to only open as a Dialog. Didnt have an issue in V10. I searched the forums and found one http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...up+full+screen and the only response was Suppose you have a maximized A5 desktop. Look at the very last option in the field rule screen: Allow maximized display.
Also notice that the toolbar of your A5 window is hidden when the lookup window is shown.

I tried that and still no joy.

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks

    Paul

    A little more info,

I opened the table in Field Rule view and maximised. Went through the various fields with lookups aassociated and observed that all the "Allow maximised display" were not flagged. I then flagged them, saved the changes, closed the table opened the form (still full screen when dropdown selected), then went back into the table again and de-flagged the "Allow maximised display", saved, closed and opened the form, still going full screen when I select any of the dropdowns.

    Cheers - Paul

Just observed that it is happening on all forms. Perhaps their is a system wide setting that I need to turn off. I am running Version 11, Build 3044.

          Hi Keith

I started a new invoice in AlphaSports, and when I clicked on new item, the choice list box went full screen. The same thing happens when I select the Rep dropdown but not with Payment or Ship Via but without looking at AlphaSports, would assume that Payment & Ship Via are a User Choice in the form and not a lookup.

          Cheers - Paul

            Hi Paul,
when I clicked on new item, the choice list box went full screen
What about when you clicked in Customer Id?

I'm surprised to hear if your Customer lookup browse went full screen. I had the Invoice form set as full screen but the customer lookup remained normal.

You are correct, the Payment & Ship Via are simple lookup lists and not lookups to a table.

I can't duplicate what you are experiencing in order to advise what setting to change.

Paul, I'm not seeing the behavior you describe.

              Check this screencast.

                Hi Keith

I tried the customer lookup and it went full screen as well.

Tom, I went through what you Jinged and I think I have it all setup the correct way.

I am using the latest built - downloaded it this afternoon.

I have attached the test database to see if others are getting the same problem (I am presently working onthe Proposal table but other tables/forms are producing the same results.)

                Many thanks

                  Hi Keith & Tom

I have had another look this morning and if I maximise the Alpha screen then restore down again, then about 50% of the time, the dropdown appears as a dialogue and not full screen. I run 3 x 22" monitors on this PC. I use 'Actual Multiple Monitors' (AMM) for desktop control. If I run Alpha on Monitors 2 or 3, then the dialogue or full screen dropdown usually (but not always) appears on Monitor 1.

Could multiple monitors be the issue ? I turned all desktop software off whilst testing.

I have used Jing (Thanks Tom :), to capture some of what is happening. Sorry, still no microphone.

The link to the screen capture

                  Many thanks

                  Paul

Re: Field Rule Lookup Open Dialog View

Multiple monitors may be an issue. If you're not using the "drop down" list box, then I think the location of the lookup browse list is "sticky". The user can move it to a convenient spot and it will always open there.

Re: Field Rule Lookup Open Dialog View

Paul, I tested your proposal form. The drop down lookup lists do not jump to full screen here. Makes no diff whether the form is running maximized or not.

I'm running Build 3044 of A5v11 on a Win 7 box. I have two monitors, each is connected to a separate video port. There is no 3rd party video software running The app behaves correctly whether displayed in monitor 1 or monitor 2.

Suggest you test you app on a machine with a single monitor.

Re: Field Rule Lookup Open Dialog View

Gday Tom. I tested it earlier today on a single monitor and same results as yourself. I am going to test it on a PC at my office that I also have Alpha on (I might have an issue with this PC) but in the interim I have re-thought some of the structure and layout which will make it a little smoother (sometimes a glitch is good :)

Thanks for your help and replys.
