Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Browse display wrong value for second level child field - any advice

Ok, looking in other post it seems the browses are object to many problems, so I would like to know if what I'm trying to do is known to be buggy, or if there's something I can do to make things right.
    Data structure:
    Customers: the main table
Services: table for the services that customers have bought
Invoices: related invoices for the services
    Set:
    Customers ==> Services -->Invoices
Form based on the Set just described.
Inside the form there is a browse for the table Services.
One column of this table is the "Invoice_code", a field from the table Invoices.
    This column... goes nuts.
Generally it always displays at least one wrong value, mostly it is the first or the last.
The wrong value turns right or wrong again depending on the row on which you click.
I tryed with different combinations of restrictions and appearence, no way out.
I tryed compacting the table, same result.

I had this same problem in two different projects, always related to the same structure: display a second level child field into a browse.
Now... is this a known bug? It seems I'm able to replicate it.
Any advice? (please, don't tell me to copy the field value from the second level to a new field in the first level child, I already did, it works, but........)
    Thanks, Enrico

In the properties for the browse is 'parent records only' checked?

Yes. I tryed with almost any combination of these "checkable" proprieties. Same behaviour.
Right now it is the third time that I'm forced to create procedures that copy values from the child table to a mirrored field in the parent. Frustrating....

You say one column is the Invoice_code - from the Invoices table? Because that field should be in both the services and invoices table and is thus the link field which usually is not displayable in the browse for the linked child. If services is one to one linked to invoices then the browse doesn't need the field from invoices at all if its fields are to be displayed elsewhere on the form. Can you give us a screenshot of some sample data or explain what you intend to do with that invoice_code data in this form?

            Thanks Robin.
Invoice_code is a calculated chars field that bundles the years with the year-related numbers. It is stored in the invoice table and it is a "code" for human use. It starts from "2012 - 1" and goes on to "2012 - 2" etc... until it reaches the last invoice for the 2012 year. Then it starts again with "2013 - 1" and so on. IT IS NOT the field used for linking parent (services) and child (invoices) tables. For this purpose a numeric field called "Invoice_id" is used. Of course, it is a auto-increment calculated field in the invoice table, and it is a standar field (which value is assigned by the program) in the services table.
Look at the screenshots: the lower browse is the browse for table services. In this session the first line switches from correct to incorrect value on the base of the selected row.
            First image: uncorrect:
            Schermata 2013-02-06 alle 04.46.25.png
Second image (I just clicked on another row): correct:
            Schermata 2013-02-06 alle 04.47.15.png
Third image (clicking on the row itself): uncorrect:
            Schermata 2013-02-06 alle 04.47.44.png
This behaviour changes from data to data, in other word if we have different user with different services and invoices maybe the value is always incorrect except when you click on the first line, or whatever else combination.
Ah, the incorrect value is always a value from another existing invoice, never a random string. This makes me think that problem is deep in the linking tables engine.

There's a recent fix for a bug in the browse object. Don't know if it will help you or not. Here's the link, check the last post.

Thank you for the link. Situations seem to be very similar, even if the final erroneous behaviour is a bit different.
I will add my experience to the thread you pointed me out
