Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Quick question Is it possible to replace Alpha icon?

Is it possible to remove or replace the Alpha icon in the main Alpha window (not to be confused with the form/layout windows). I tried searching on the forum but nothing stood out. I would like to hide Alpha awareness from the user in my custom app.

Or are you talking about the Splash screen when starting an application?

Thanks Stan for the suggestion, I will go through that reference. I doubt I would have considered looking there.

Keith I believe it is referred to as the A5 window. It is the one, where the forms (layouts), control panel, etc., are inside of it. There is the Alpha icon at the top left corner and I would like to get rid of it.

          You can also go to:

          Tools-> Create Shortcut

Make sure to look at all of the tabs

Re: Quick question Is it possible to replace Alpha icon?

In case others may want to do this, I found the easiest way to get my goal accomplished was to use the shortcut as Allen suggestion.

Stan - I probably did not have the correct syntax to move it to the autoexec, but I did not want to devote much more time on this since the Allen's shortcut method was doing what I wanted.

I don't know who mentioned the autoexec.

The short cut genie just creates the command line options from your selections rather than having to manually create them. Take a look at the target line in the properties of your new shortcut.

It was me that mentioned the autoexec I was thinking I could add those command line calls there as part of the startup file. Apparently that is not possible.

                      Dave

Thanks for pointing me to the thread. It got me to thinking that instead of a vb.exe, which is good idea but has overhead, could I simply create an .bat file and launch the app from there. I could add the command line options in it. This has some issues, but if I could resolve them it may be a workable.

In the end the desktop shortcut is working, so maybe I should just leave well enough alone.
                      Regards,

Yes you can, and I believe you can set it up as a .com file if you wish - By the way, the exe terminates itself after launching.

There are also some other ways to do that. I did it tis way so one does not see the command line options. I change the alpha5.exe to alda.exe(my company name). I use astrum Installer and can do a lot with that too, but not making a startup file.

Ever had problems keeping the .bmp file used as substitute splash? I like the icon on the desktop, and my custom .bmp for the initializing of the program, but it will stop working every so often, and go back to the alpha 5 splash.

Me neither. It works reliably for multiple users - daily, for years & years.
