Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Rtf objects are not mentioned in that thread. What are you trying to do?
    There can be only one.

Stan thanks for responding. Yes if you got to response 12, Tim did create an interesting sample in count of.
I belive you had help me in the past and I had created a script to do "count of total"
I just notice using the code i was using, it has a flaw. The code works well, but if I click the browse view, it does not carry the selected records, it display all of the records. Tim came up with sample that address my issue.
      Here is his link from that 12 response;
      http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...427#post608427

I download the sample and uses rtf object. I know about rtf fields, but this one is new to me. and I would like to change it to fit my needs.
That is what I am trying to do.

        Mike, you're kidding, right?

Most of us who volunteer our time on the board enjoying helping folks figure out solutions to their questions. Almost none of us enjoy spending our energy trying to understand what the question is in the first place. Honestly, couldn't you spend a bit of YOUR time to make it easier for folks here to help you? You should think long and hard about the reasonableness of referencing a 21 post thread, expecting us to read each post, then download and study all the attachments along the way, just to discover post 12 refrences obliquely the issue you're posting about.

With a bit of effort on YOUR part you could have supplied a sample, described the context in which the change is to be made, and then described the result you seek to achieve.

        [ deleted ... I needed a "Snickers", sorry. ]

Tom I apologize if I missguide you or any reader, my original question was:
I would like to use the rtf object, how do I edit it or open it or see what is inside?
I was hoping it will be a simple response.
I did not intend to make your efforts overtaxing. The Mention of the thread, was only a reference where I got the idea.
You are correct, I should have been more specific. I hope in the future, if I have a future in this board be more specific.
I do appreciate the time all of you devote here.

Mike, I apologize for my intemperate reply, above.

Can you be more specific? what does "edit it, use it, or see what's inside it" mean? There are functions available that will extract raw text from the RTF memo field, is that what you're attempting? Or are you simply wanting to display the field on screen and let the user view / edit its contents. Cannot tell from what you're saying so far.

Re: How to edit an RTF object

Tom is not you who had to apologize. I did review the page Tim had suggested. I had seen it before and I though I had a bit of understanding in how to use rtf.
My confussion was not been able to see the whole code. I play with the form and I was able to recreate the rtf, but I could not see the code even after I created it.
Even after double click the field, I did not see the code. By accident I double click one of the lines with dots and saw the code. If by any chance you double click in the "of" part, nothing happens.
So the answer to the original question was: double click on the section/line with dots and you will se the codes.
Now that we solved that issue, I see 2 challenging questions, but before I post them I will review them to make sure I will be as clear as possible with the questions.
I will use Tim's sample with the old code I did use before and show the difference, advantages and disavantage of both codes. perhaps we cam come up with a solution to my problem.
Thanks for taking the time to all. I will be back.
