Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Change Color of Menu Bar

    I have a menu selected for each form selected in the form properties. I'd like to change its color scheme. I don't see an option to do this on the form, or on the Code tab where it is created, or the Control Panel -> View->Setting -> preferences.

    Where is it hiding?

    Thanks,

    Tom

    Hi Tom
    If it's the menu colour you are asking about setting, do this in the menu itself.
    Otherwise you are asking a rather vague question

      Re: Change Color of Menu Bar

      Hi Ray,

      I can't find where to change the background color for example a menu bar. The menu bar is created on the Code tab, then selected in the form properties.

      I think I'm missing something obvious, but I don't see it. You suggest doing it on the menu itself. I don't see that option.

        Tom,

        Doesn't the background color for the menu bar follow the theme that is set for the application? System-Preferences-Alpha Five theme.
        There can be only one.

          I'm a bit off your track then.
          I use the Toolbar option to create my menus, either left or top docked.
          They have a tab where thee colour is set.
          I see now looking at the menu creator, it does not have that colour option.
          And the code neither appears to have a colour setting

            Re: Change Color of Menu Bar

            Stan - I changed the theme, created a new form, and still the menu and toolbar do not change.
            Ray - wish I could find the tab you mention where the three colors are set.

            I'll try to create a new toolbar and look for the color, maybe since I imported from an older version, it didn't convert. Otherwise I'm thinking it might be in my Windows7 setup.

            I'll keep looking, but would appreciate other suggestions.

            Thanks ~ Tom

              Re: Change Color of Menu Bar

              In the toolbar option there is the "Toolbar appearance" tab
              In the menu option NOT.
              However, looking further,
              If you capture the code, wrap it in the ui_popup_menu() function, run it, it appears with the blue .
              My assumption is that either there is a colour setting in that code OR blue is a system default for ui_popup
              If you want to follow this path, using the menu option format, see if you can find whether ui_popup_menu( ) has a colour option that can be inserted.
              I cant find one but I haven't gone more deeply and I'm very amateur at xdialog
              The following displays the same colour
              Code:
              vMenuItems = <<%a%
              Choice One | sub-selection One
              Choice One | sub-selection Two | third level selection one
              Choice One | sub-selection Two | third level selection two
              Choice Two
              Choice Three
              %a%
              vPopupReturn = ui_popup_menu(vMenuItems)
              I must presume that Stan would know if there was an instruction to change it.

                No options there.

                Unless we're all speaking of different things, I believe the menubar follows the current theme.

                  Re: Change Color of Menu Bar

                  But you can with
                  ui_popup_styled_menu(colors, style)

                  I somehow don't think that's what you want

                    Stan,

                    How did you do that? Where are you running the interactive window from? Or does it make a difference.

                      Copied Ray's code to the interactive and ran it. Changed the Alpha Five theme, ran it again. This is running under XP.

                        you can change the color of the dropdown. Try this code
                        dim items as C
                        dim style as C
                        items = <<%str1%
                        Loopy
                        Guarana
                        Marsh
                        Left radical
                        %str1%
                        style = <<%str%
                        menu.v_item_min_leftx=0
                        color.menu_v_background=green
                        color.menu_v_left=orange
                        color.menu_v_right=blue
                        font.menu=Tahoma,8,0
                        %str%
                        Sel = ui_popup_styled_menu(items, style)

                          Where are you putting this code. And how do you "run" it?
                          Sorry to show my ignorance. I copied it to my interactive window and hit the enter key, but go an error regarding the style.

                            If you run code in the interactive, more than one line, you have to select/hilight all the code and then run it.

                              OK - got it and did it.

                              Now how do I get my menu bar items into this format and show it on the top of the form.

                              I see the option to convert my menu code to xBasic, so I'll do that and play with how to get it where I want it.

                              Thanks to you all,
