Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Drop Down Browse Search Supercontrol

I am attempting to use a Drop Down Browse Search on a form that is set to not allow changes to the data as this form displays historical data. I set this by setting "parentform.allow_change(.F.)" in the forms OnInit event.

The Drop Down Browse Supercontrol doesn't work if I have the form set to not allow changes.

Are there any known workarounds for this?

    Thanks

Re: Drop Down Browse Search Supercontrol

From the Wiki on Control Properties:
If you set a form to modal data entry, all objects on the form are locked (i.e. cannot be changed) until the form is placed into enter or change mode. This includes two-state buttons, multi-state buttons, and variables. In many cases, it is desirable to be able to click two and multi-state buttons and to set variable values even if the form is modal. If this is what you want to do, open the object's Properties dialog, display its Setup tab, and select "Always Modeless" in Field Properties to specify that the object is always modeless.

Now the only problem is that the XD supercontrol does not have a field property - I checked mine with Object Explorer. If no changes take place on your form you could set all your fields to Read Only. Cal Locklin has a Group_Format utility that lets you change them all together.

OR you could do it the old fashion way and just use a regular drop down object attached to a variable - then it will have a field property you can set to 'Always Modeless'. ;)

      Mark,

I reported this as a bug a long time ago and Selwyn told me that they would fix this. I guess they haven't.

First, I would submit a bug report that there is no property to make the drop down modeless when using a modal form.
Then, look at my attached .jpg This is the work around.

Open the object explorer, find the setting Non_modal and Set non_modal = True

        Hi Ron,
I checked that in v10.5 and there are no field properties for my Tree Supercontrol - perhaps they changed that in v11 but forgot to add it to the properties genie?

          Ron,

Thanks a lot for this work around...

It works, but how do I put the form into change mode when it is set to modal?

Occasionally we need to be able to make changes in this form.

          Thanks!

            Hi Mark,
If you use a button on the form or toolbar, you could scipt that to toggle edit mode with the form's restrict.change property as well as the settings for the Supercontrol field properties. You could also trap the F3 key in an Onkey event to do likewise.

If I'm understanding correctly, that you have to go into change mode to make the drop down super control active.
Then you can try this. Took me days to find Grrrrr!!!

                In edit mode,
                View
                Object explorer
                Field
                set "Non_Model" = True
Don't forget to hit SET at the bottom of the page before closing.
Works like a charm, no code.
