Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    A5Doc won't run in V11 Windows 8

I've recently installed V11 on a new machine on Windows 8. I downloaded the latest A5Doc and it appears to install correctly but on selecting a A5Doc on a table, nothing happens. I ran the install as an administrator. Also, I never get to the point of needing to enter my Lic key. I've compared the A5Doc directory to my old XP machine with V10 and all files appear to be in the right place. Other posts on this subject say it works on Win 7 but there is no discussion about A5doc, Win 8 and V11.

Interesting. The latest download (from http://partec.net/a5doc/download.htm) works for me--except that it won't register my license key. So at this point I have to use it in trial mode. Where did you install V11? I do not install A5 in Program files. Maybe that's the difference?

Thanks for the tip. I do have the latest file so that is not it. I actually did not know you could install in any directory other than Program Files. I dread to think about having to uninstall and reinstall but maybe I will have to try that if all else fails. Win 8 has been pretty solid except for this and Netmailer Pro not working.

        Erich,

You may or may not need to install A5 somewhere other than Program Files--since win7 I just do not use Program Files for a5 because I have been cautioned by others that it can cause problems.

In any case, I solved my registration problem with a little help from Bill Parker who said I needed to either turn off UAC or run the installer with "run as administrator" set on the installer exe (right click on the exe to set this). One or the other (or both) of those two things may solve your installation problem.

Interestingly, by themselves these things did not solve my A5docs registration problem. I had long since turned off UAC and as a user I had admin rights but registration still failed. Not knowing what else to do, I decided to try starting A5V11 with "run as administrator" set and then enter my A5doc license # and register. That worked! Why that should be necessary I do not know, but it worked.

        Good luck.

Thanks to all for the help. I actually got a tip to turn off User Access Control from Alpha while diagnosing why Netmailer Pro wouldn't install --similar problem. I turned off UAC and A5Doc works now albeit only in trial mode, but it works. Netmailer Pro also works now. Each MS OpSys seems to have it's own tricks. Again, thanks all and I hope this thread helps others as the Win 8 user base increases.

And, one more update. Yes, if you start A5V11 as Administrator, you can then register A5Doc. I'm now fully registered and operational. Net: think UAC and "run as Adminstrator" when encountering these types of issues on a Win 8 machine.
