Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Not all are going to agree with all others, does not make anybody right or wrong.

If you are talking about holding Ctrl + Shift to bypass autoexec script when starting a workspace this is called debug mode it can be disabled in settings-> startup-> Debug Mode Allowed yes=allowed no=disallowed. Can also be shut off with a command line startup:
This is kept in the registry(i think), so you need so you need to include the registry entries with your app.

I do not use aex, I prefer to password protect each script and function.

Thanks, Peter, I feel much better about security now.

That's enough for me this week, I need a beer and a Thai curry, and sooner rather than later

      Cheers!

Forgot to mention. On that button, remove the flyover events and set the border to "none".

        Beer, yes!

The command line options are not foolproof of course, since they exist in the shortcut or startup (text) form.
One of the reasons I use an exe to start my apps that has all the startup option inside it. No more text for them to mess with(and they will)

                  Here you go spudmurphy.

Note the main app is called "security". The alternate app is called "hack_attempt".

                  Enjoy!

Re: How do I security an Alpha desktop application?

This question is for Peter, I very new into this Alpha anywhere development. I have watched the two video tutorials on how to make a mobile web app one interacting with the Northwind database. I have not really developed any desktop app yet, but have seen the alphaSport desktop application and have used Astrum installer to package that app and installed it on another computer. What I need help is how do your encrypt and password protect each individual objects(form, functions, etc.) in your application.
Also, I am about to develop a web/mobile app. could you lead me to a link that show me how to develop a proper login screen (userID, pw) so it is not accessible to the whole world. Many thanks in advance Peter..

To protect a script or function, put this on the very first line of code:

                        'password your_password_here

You can also compile your scripts/functions into an aex file. You'll have to read up on aex in the documentation. Use OPTION ENCRYPTED_TOKENS is you want to protect the aex.

Search for the word "Login" here:

Oh, and you can password protect your forms from form properties and layouts - use the save as and click on the password button.

                          Hi Peter,
Please accept my apology if this question is trivial. I been reading this desktop security issue, but I have not found similar threads for web base applications. lets say, one of our customers is hosting their own WAS and we publish our web/mobile app to their WAS remotely. could someone in their company purchase A5 and look at our web app to see how we designed it?

Assuming you had the security credentials to publish to their site. They could examine any a5w pages in a text editor or HTML editor. They might be able to look at components, however they would not be able to effectively edit components. They could examine the contents of the published text files such as:

                            ProjectProperties.projectProperties
                            pages.SecuritySettings
                            Project.SecuritySettings
                            Guid.SecuritySettings

So they could make a mess of things I guess. And, yes, they could gain a good understanding of what you are doing.
