Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Help how.?
    All that description indicates a problem in a table or index.
    To help FIX it you must supply all the data and export method.

      Suggest you look for incompatible data being entered in your Db tables.

          Hi fellows,

          Does the no 42 indicate that it encountered problem on record 42? Or shall i find the problem record one by one in the database?

            No. It is the line in the script where it fell over.
            Look at the Xbasic

              Hi Ted,

              Actually this is just a report i made to be exported to excel as I want the size and font be exported as well. I've been generating the program for months now but only now this has occurred. I checked the script on line 42 this is the script .reportColumnDividerBelowHeadingB {
              bottom-line-style:single; what does this mean? Can I just delete this ? I tried but cant delete.

                Re: read past end of file

                There are a number of possibilities as obviously something has changed. If you are sure that the data is correct and does not contain unprintable characters or rubbish, consider the following;
                1) if you installed a newer version of Alpha, roll back to a previous version and try again.
                2) if you have upgraded Excel, that might not be playing nicely with Alpha.
                3) if you have allowed M/soft updates to be installed automatically, that may have screwed something up. A latest update caused me major headaches, and I had to restore to a previous restore point to get around it.

                The easiest way to change Xbasic is to View the script created in the Action Scripting, copy to clipboard, create a new script using the Xbasic setting, paste and then modify.
                I would suspect that the bottom-line single means either an underline or a bottom line of a box.

                    Re: read past end of file

                    Depending upon how many records, you might try the grunt approach of filtering the report into groups fo records by record number or some filter parameter and see where the report to excel balks. This will allow you to hone in on the problem data.

                      To all,

                      This is what i did I tried creating putting the field one by one but still the error occurs. I tried copying and create an xbasic script and delete the line 42 which is this "}
                      .reportColumnDividerBelowHeadingB {
                      bottom-line-style:single; And it worked.

                      As a newbie, my interpretation to this is that this has something to do with layout of my report. is this a bug? how can this be fixed?

                          Hi Ted,

                          In answer to your post. No I did not update ms access, I did not update excel. I reverted back to previous version but still the error. How can alpha five remove that bottom line script when creating report ? I don't need that anyway.
