Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Reports disappeared

At one point it fixed itself. Not sure what I did but it may have had to do with me deleting ALL reports in the workspace - so now it works. So I can't duplicate it now (until it happens again)
Tried the dictionary update, rebuild indexes thing - did not fix it for me.
    Thanks Stan.

      Re: Reports disappeared

Thanks for the response Stan - no it doesn't show or list with those commands but if I try to save a report to the missing name it gives the duplicate layout error. I just had a quick play with a copy of the alb file outside the program - renaming as a dbf and opening in libre office (without its memo file) shows the missing names. I'll investigate further when I get chance to see if the dictionary.update will work with this or if there's some other way to correct the alb file. I recreated my report from an earlier copy to keep my users happy.

        Re: Reports disappeared

Most likely the index for the alb file is corrupt. Just as you could have a missing record in a table if the cdx is out of date.

Does anyone have a misbehaving/disappeared report based on a single table and would not mind attaching it (zipped table from control panel) here for analysis?

Mine are all based on SETS and now I can't find the backup of when it was still misbehaving.

Next time I run into it I will be glad to forward it.

Attached the whole workspace. Small and no confidentiallity issues. A report called DEEarn just disappeared.
Now though it does not sitll show when I try to save a new report of that name.

                Re: Reports disappeared

Martin, any chance you could create a screencast illustrating the steps you follow when a saved report disappears? I've never (thankfully) experienced this, so I'm very curious how you are going about building and saving your reports.

                Later...

I took a look at your sample. The reports there are all saved "quick reports". Are these the report "types" that have been disappearing, or did they disappear after conversion to "free form" or "Layout" type reports?

                  Re: Reports disappeared

IF it was consistent I could maybe. Just tried this:

From reports tab rightclick the DUProd report; choose design; add group (the second field called blocknumber); click SAVE at top left of window. I get an ALPHA5 has encountered an error and needs to close error. Press OK and the next time you reload the workspace the report is gone.
I just tried it on the DEHourRates report in exactly the same steps and I get the same result.
Yes I usually work with the quick reports as much as I can before distribution.
Last weekend I was not getting the ALPHA5 has encountered an error message but something about A5 Dialog Box = error.

                    Re: Reports disappeared

A workaround that worked for me this time - on the DUProd Report after it disappeared was to go create a new Quick report, save it to the same name (DUprod), close it, and then rightclick it, choose design, the Restore a prior Version and I got it back (although it was no longer in the Quick Report format)

Soory, that last post should read to rightclick the report and then choose Restore a Prior Version

                          Re: Reports disappeared

No luck here. I looked at the set data dictionaries but couldn't see any problem causes.

Did have a lot of problems editing the reports and switching between editor tabs until I defined a report title.

Try dropping the table (that the report is associated with) from the database and then add it back.

Please confirm that this issue is limited to saved "quick reports", right?
