Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

1st open of form, shows field names, not data ???

Wanted to see if anyone has run into this issue.
    Ver 11 3044-4041
As of Monday of this week, when we first open a form, the fields show the field names instead of field data.
The problem goes away when you first page up or down and works as it should until Alpha is closed.
    Thanks
    Tony

One reason I am always hesitant to upgrade is the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and all had been working really good, even the web side, until Monday.
Have you seen or heard of my issue before?
      Thanks

        Tony,

this is normal behavior for calculated values that cannot be evaluated at runtime. Might that explain what you're seeing?

But it is broke, isn't it? Who knows what windows update changed something that a later build fixes.

That said, Tom's point is the likely answer. It would seem that your calculated fields (if that is where the problem lies) rely on something that happens after the form is opened and a record is fetched.

Will that apply to all fields, even fields where there is no calculations being done to that field or with that field?
            Thanks

Just calculated fields defined for the form and probably variables not populated.

Do you see the same behavior when you open AlphaSports?

No, Alpha Sports works as it should.
However, about half my forms work as they should and all worked before Monday.
I may try to upgrade this afternoon and see if that helps.
                Thanks

Make sure you have the 3044-4041 patch saved somewhere. Run the new patch. If something else breaks you can restore the previous state by rerunning 3044-4041

I upgraded to 3381_4096 and same thing is happening, but I think it is as Tom suggested, that it is being caused by a calculated field that gets a value from a child record from an embedded browse on the form. In records where there are no child records, Alpha displays the field data as it should.
I may need to re-think my method of entering expenses for my inventory items.
                    Thanks Stan and Tom

in the onfetch event for the form, for all calculated fields put in this code

if the object name for the calculated field is "mycalc1"
                      then say

                      mycalc1.refresh()

do this for all calculated fields

or, if it only happens when you first open the form, you could put it in the onactivate event

I tried what you suggested and it did not solve my problem. (I may not have done it correctly)
However, because of your post I put a "parentform.resynch()" in the "onfetch" event for each of my forms and that worked!
Thanks for putting be on the right path!
