I had incorrectly concluded that Martin was still recommending the query instead of exist ()...

You code is likely better... but I have learned from bitter experience: "if it ain't broke... don't fix it"!

Tom Cone pointed out when you delete a record in a looping script like that Alpha fetches another record, and would then skip every other record, if you t.fetch_next() after deleting the record.

so this would be better than using the loop

if idx.records_get() > 0
     t.delete_range()
end if

I've run into problems with exist() in scripts like this, and use an old fashioned approach:

t=table.open("tablename")
query.filter=whatever finds the record or records
query.order=""
query.options=""
idx=t.query_create()
if idx.records_get() > 0
     t.fetch_first()
     while .not. t.fetch_eof()
          t.change_begin()
                t.delete()
           t.change_end()
           t.fetch_next()
     end while
end if 
idx.drop()
t.close()

the records are correctly deleted from the ordermemo table...
but the script fails on the orderdetail delete... the error message stated that "...the table is not in change or enter mode"

How can I get these records deleted?
