Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Interesting. Actually, the data is coming from the "itm_table" which I am filtering from the variable to the browse on the mainfrom.

      Possibly a question of semantics but.

      You don't populate a browse nor do you filter data to it. A browse is a means to view the records in a table. Once you have populated a table you can filter a browse based on the table to show only certain records. Records that do not meet the filter criteria still exist in the table.

      the data is coming from the "itm_table"
      The data is the itm_table.

        Re: Need Help with Filtering

        I am still having an issue with with. I did a test with "Query by fields from the main menu" and it works great, but could not accomplish this with x-basic.

        On the screenshot I have two thing 1) itm_table 2) markwillardset

        What I would like to do is to show ABCD and JKLM family code record on the form "markwillardset" browse.

        Code:
        'Date Created: 17-Jul-2013 10:05:31 AM
        'Last Updated: 18-Jul-2013 11:52:30 AM
        'Created By  : SMathews
        'Updated By  : mwillard
        if alltrim(familycode.value+familycode_1.value+familycode_2.value) = ""
        	'blank values, do nothing
        	end
        else if alltrim(familycode.value) = ""
        	'missing main code, warn
        	ui_msg_box("Warning","Must enter main family code")
        else
        	filt = ""
        	filt = "familycode = "+quote(familycode.value)
        	filt = filt+if(alltrim(familycode_1.value) > ""," .and. familycode_1 = "+quote(familycode_1.value),"")
        	filt = filt+if(alltrim(familycode_2.value) > ""," .and. familycode_2 = "+quote(familycode_2.value),"")
        	filt = filt+if(alltrim(familycode_3.value) > ""," .and. familycode_3 = "+quote(familycode_3.value),"")
        	tbl = table.current()
        	tbl.query_create("N",filt)
        	parentform.resynch()
        end if

          Re: Need Help with Filtering

          The fields on your form are parent table fields. You can use those as search fields but you are also changing the table values behind the fields when you do.

          What I would like to do is to show ABCD and JKLM family code record on the form "markwillardset" browse.
          All the records in your set have ABCD JKLM in the parent records so when you filter you get all records.

          Not sure of the purpose of creating a set with a blank linking field which links all parent records to all child records. Actually I am totally unclear of what you are trying to accomplish.

          Bowing out of this thread.

          Good luck.
