Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Default Calculation in xdialog does not claculate.

    I have an xdialog with 3 fields
    pick1 , pick2 and pick3
    Pick3 is defined as default with a code of pick1+" "+pick2

    Nothing happens.
    If I define pick3 default as "40" as an example , it does display 40

    How can I get pick3 to display the reults of pick1 and pick2?

    Re: Default Calculation in xdialog does not claculate.

    The UI_DLG_REFRESH() function causes the dialog code to be re-run. refreshing the display of variables and conditional sections in the dialog.
    There can be only one.

      Where or how do you apply "UI_DLG_REFRESH() function "?

        Suggest you read up on the killfocus event. This event fires when focus leaves an object in the xdialog. It can serve as the hook, from which you hang your script, to refresh other objects.

          See the documentation for

          Trapping the Change Event

          Code:
          'Create an XDialog dialog box to prompt for parameters.
          DIM SHARED pick1 as C
          DIM SHARED pick2 as C
          DIM SHARED pick3 as C
          DIM SHARED varC_result as C
          ok_button_label = "&OK"
          cancel_button_label = "&Cancel"
          varC_result = ui_dlg_box("Alpha Five",<<%dlg%
          {region}
          One:| [.40pick1!change];
          Two:| [.40pick2!change];
          Three:| [.40pick3];
          {endregion};
          {line=1,0};
          {region}
          <*15=ok_button_label!OK> <15=cancel_button_label!CANCEL>
          {endregion};
          %dlg%,<<%code%
          if a_dlg_button = "change" then
              a_dlg_button = ""
              pick3 = pick1+" "+pick2
          end if
          if a_dlg_button = "&Close" then
              if address_txt <> "" then
                   a_dlg_button = address_txt
              end if
          end if
          %code%)

            I though I had responded, I gess I did not.
            Yes the code from Stan, works well, I even was able to use the result of Pick3 to find records and display matching info.

            The info in Killfocus, looks good. I will explore more of it.
            Thanks Stan and Tom.

              Re: Default Calculation in xdialog does not claculate.

              Mike,
              Just to have it be said and to be aware, the xdialog killfocus event for combo boxes does not behave the same for a combo box as it does for an edit-combo box. The event with the combo box fires with the field value selection, emulating more a change event. It also does fire upon focus leaving the box. The edit-combo box only fires upon focus leaving the box. Be aware so you aren't pulling your hair out when the behavior is not what you might expect. Play with the two using the following code to see for yourself changing what is in red in the code between the combo box control ^= and the edit-combo box control ^+ .

              Code:
              dim vlist as C
              vlist=comma_to_crlf("one,two,three,four,five,six")

              dim start as C=""
              dim vc_box1 as C=""
              dim vc_box2 as C=""
              dim vr as C
              vR=ui_dlg_box("test",<<%dlg%
              {lf};
              [.20start];
              [.20vc_box1[COLOR="#FF0000"][SIZE=4]^+[/SIZE][/COLOR]vlist!evb1_*];
              [.20vc_box2!evb2_*];
              <CLOSE>
              {lf};
              %dlg%,<<%code%
              IF left(a_dlg_button,5)="evb1_"
              	if a_dlg_button="evb1_killfocus"
              		ui_beep(UI_CRITICAL_BEEP)
              	end if
                a_dlg_button=""
              END IF

              IF left(a_dlg_button,5)="evb2_"
              	if a_dlg_button="evb2_setfocus"
              		vc_box2=vc_box1
              		msgbox("Is there a beep?")
              	end if
                a_dlg_button=""
              END IF
              %code%)

                  I was using v11 action script and did not work. The code sample from Stan, works very well.
