Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Invoice Report Skipping Customers

I'm converting (and enhancing) an A4 desktop application to A5 using existing data. I've created a set from three tables for invoicing: a parent "Members" table with links to a "Transactions" table as one-to-many, and a "ClubInfo" table as one-to-one with one record of club address information including name and address fields.

I'm in the early stages of developing the Invoice report with only the report page header completed. It seems to be working as envisioned with only a minor glitch ... as I preview the report and move through the members table, the report header reflects the "current" member record. Trouble is ... it's only doing every 14th member! It's acting like I have a filter turned on but I can't locate one anywhere. For the 165 members in the table the report preview only shows 12 pages. When I do use a filter for the 36 active members in the table, the preview only has 4 pages. The good news is they are indeed active members. The bad news ... about 32 members short. And we have little enough active members as it is!

I've hunted around on Alpha Sports and a "Time and Billing" tutorial. I don't see where I've defined my set any differently than what I see on the two examples. I thought it might have to do with the Transactions table since I've not done any detail work on the form and not all the members have items in the transactions. But the preview so far is picking up members unrelated to the transactions. Just getting every 14th record in the members table. Appreciate anyone with ideas on where to look.

Possibly reverse the set to transactions a s primary?

Sample of your database for analysis?
      There can be only one.

        hello

one of the places to investigate is the set definition.
in the set definition dialog on the right side there is properties. one of them (located somewhere in the middle) is, include from the parent. see what is in that box. that box is something similar to inner, outer, left or right join terminology in sql, that i am most familiar with.
if there is something that you don't like you can remove that and see.
        thanks for reading

            Re: Invoice Report Skipping Customers

I've played around with the set design some, even creating a "testing" set definition eliminating the "ClubInfo" table; just linking the transactions from the members table. That produced similar results except with a different member selection (skipping up to 30 members at a whack). Making the transactions as primary creates a many-to-one relationship that doesn't seem doable.

I'm sure part of the problem might be I'm working with an A4 design from 20 year ago. The fella that designed that application didn't do the invoicing from his A4 design but exported the member list and transactions to a CSV and used QuickBasic for the statements. I'm beginning to think I might have to try writing something similar in Xbasic but that seems like an extreme solution.

What type of sample might I provide for analysis?

              Re: Invoice Report Skipping Customers

primary table, secondary tables definition and how they are related to the each other should be sufficient to play with. it is not necessary to include all the fields, just enough to understand the structure. (if you are able to include sample data then it will be fantastic, cuts the time to insert data)

                Tom,

If you will zip the db and send it up here with a little sample data, we/someone here will help you figure it out.

Right click on the set concerned (tables/sets tab) select ZIP.
Send that zip - all the tables forms and report will be attached.

A reversed set (of a one to many) is a one to one. One transaction is related to one invoice. Seems counterintuitive but you can have multiple transactions linked one to one to an invoice.
                    There can be only one.

Issue resolved! Newbie user-error. After trying multiple variations of set design I went back to Alpha Sports and looked at the REPORT DESIGN!! Ohhhhh, THAT'S what that "Group Section" is for? It all works swell with my original set definition.

I do have to go back to the forum again however because I saw something about the detail items duplicating for the occasional invoice and I have that going on for one member. Thanks for all that tried to offer help.
