Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

A5 Documenter Installed but nothing happens after launched

On a Windows 7 machine suing V11 I get the A5 Doc Print option on a right click of the dbf but nothing happens regardless of what option I select (Structure, Field Rules, Indexes)

Hmmm. I can see the problem. Let me investigate.

The short answer is to turn off UAC.

The longer answer is I don't know what happened. Until recently A5Doc worked fine with UAC on. A5Doc still works fine in v9 and v10 with UAC on. But in the last couple months it is a problem in v11 and v12. Selwyn does not know why there would be a difference. But it is interesting to me that v11 and v12 are compiled with Visual Studio 2010.

At any rate, I am looking at options so UAC does not need to be off.

        Bill.

This is also true for latest version of AlphaAnywhere running on Windows 7 latest update.

This is also true for latest version of AlphaAnywhere running on Windows 7 latest update except that nothing appears when I right click on any tab. I downloaded the program again from Bill's site (did not get asked for license # btw) and thought that this might fix problem being the latest version.

Mike, do you have UAC off?

                Hi Billm

Yes UAC is off - I've tried it both ways. One other detail - the files were created several versions ago in A5 but I can run them in AlphaAnywhere. The only sections that don't function are the some of the "sets", but not all.

                  Bill,

I too had problems with A5Doc on AA (v12) where it appeared to install and then wouldn't launch when clicked on for the back pane of the Control Panel.
I did turn off UAC and that DID enable it to load and run. This is a ASUS Notebook, running Win7pro. I do not like to run with UAC off as I do a lot of weird
stuff with this machine so I would be most interested when you have a working version that does not require UAC to be turned off.

                  Regards,

But is A5Doc working correctly when UAC is off? Some have reported that in addition to UAC off they had to install Alpha (not A5Doc) with admin privileges (right click installer, run as admin) and then A5Doc worked.

                    Bill.

I did not install AA (v12) with Admin Privileges and yes once I turned UAC off it (A5Doc) worked. I did have to install V11 that way and always got the UAC warning that went away once I turned UAC off. The older release (not 97e) has always worked on v11 probably due to the Admin setting.
