Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Multiple Libraries Showing

When I began using Alpha in 2007 my Scripts/Codes showed only 1 entry for each in the control panel. When I upgraded from V9 to V10, then V10 to 10.5 I noticed that I somehow wound up with 3 of each Code/Script showing. When I place them in edit mode I see each points to a different location. Now that I have moved into V11, I now see SIX OF EACH. When I pull up my list of libraries in the Workspace Properties pane I see a list of 12 libraries. Each are named the same, but 4 point to the same file (D:\mydatabasefile\mydatabasename.alb). I imagine that if I were to delete the duplicate libraries I would get rid of this annoying issue.

Is there any potential harm in deleting libraries that are not associated with my current database path above??

The multiple libraries seem to arise when building a new application from a copy of one created in an older version.

As a novice, this is indeed my usual practice :) I just tried updating to the latest release of V11 and had some sort of crash during the installation... now a DZIP32.DLL file is missing and multiple attempts at un/re installing V11 on my server are not working. Ever experience such a thing?

Never tried that. I don't install the program on a server, only the data files.

I have Alpha installed on a few servers, where we use T/S or Citrix
If the install bombed, it is most likely a permission issue
try running the install.exe as an administrator, and if it still bombs, you may need your IT guy to help

Thanks for the continued support :) I got it knocked out. Whew. A thorough uninstall (deleted installation folders and all registry entries I could find) and fresh post-restart installation seemed to replace the missing dll file... back in business. Now to enjoy the V11 features while the rest of the world leaves me in the dust on their V12 applications :) I am always a couple years behind. Should've gone to IT school instead of cop school :)

At least you didn't go into politics in San Diego.

                    Re: Multiple Libraries Showing

Hahah. Awesome. The only reason I go to San Diego is to buy out their Sheriff's Dept of mobile data terminals every 3 years and to spend a few weekends every year scuba diving their assortment of shipwrecks offshore :) I have any more problems with this V11 upgrade I might just need another get-away. One of the coolest features I built into my system is the ability for my dispatchers to grab a .WAV file from our call server and link it via File Upload into the Alpha application. This allows my Officers in their patrol car to download and listen to the call for service that they are driving to. Great for officer safety, hearing the background, etc...

How come in the File Upload thing in V11 doesn't allow you to specify the path where you want to dump the uploaded file? Is there something I am missing here? Do you know where it dumps them if you use the upload file builder?
