Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    interactive editor toolbar bad design

Is it really necessary to have a toolbar button that completely and unretrievably deletes the highlighted script next to a toolbar button that requires the script text to be highlighted in order to execute? With all that unused real estate, wouldn't it be prudent to separate these two. I just look at this as bad design. It also begs the question why this toolbar cannot be changed/edited as the the script editor toolbar can.

In the code tab, right click on the whitespace, chose menu Customize System Menus/Toolbars - submenu Customize System Toolbars -

make your own Toolbar starting with the system protected one.

I'm not sure what "submenu Customize System Toolbars" is that you refer to. I don't see that in my list. I see all green dot toolbars and the blue dot control panel. I do not see one for the Interactive Editor. I believe I am in the right place. I have added several toolbar items to my Control Panel toolbar. I can't find access to IW toolbar.

        Mistakes happen wherever.
BTW It doesn't remove highlighted script - clears from the cursor position down.
Maybe don't use those, right click highlighted script and select run.
Any way the interactive window is not where you keep valued code safe.

I have to agree wholeheartedly. Bad design. Reminds me of the design in the 1950's of putting the switch that counteracts a jet fighter's flat spin central on the dash when the centripetal force of the spin strongly forces the hand needed to reach that switch away from center. A few pilots died before and Anthropologist studying the problem came up with the solution to put the switch to the far right on the console.

No offense Ray, but in my hands, it deletes all but the first line.... and you can't retrieve it. So I don't believe your statement is correct.

I use the IW often to run and test code. Sometimes it can get pretty in depth. I have slipped and hit that X button and lost code. Expletives always follow. I'd say that moving the button that runs the IW selected code more peripheral could save some pilots.

          Al,
I don't see in the toolbar editor (attached pic) a path to change the toolbar for the IW. Could you please guide us a little more. This is something I certainly wish I had, too.

It doesn't look the the IW toolbar is designed to be modified.

Perhaps a suggestion to Selwyn is in order.

Destructive menuitems deserve as much with or without the confirmation.
