Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Can AlphaDAO Export to Excel Be Based on Currently Selected Records

    When I use the "File" option I can have the records currently in the browse exported. But when I try to use the AlphaDAO, it seems the only option is to use arguments that are set at runtime, that's not what I want know, I would like to use the formatting of the AlphaDAO option and export only those records currently in the Browse. Is this possible?

    Below Arguments is Filter. Not sure if it will work but you can try CURRENT_FILTER_EXPN().

    You might also be able to hilight the browse (top left corner) and use CURRENT_HIGHLIGHTED_RECORDS().

      Hey Stan, both those gave the same error, "Error querying local table - Filter expression not logical"

        Where exactly was I to use those functions, inside the Filter field of the Operation?

            Try the filter

            eval(current_filter_expn())

              I tried it as

              eval(current_filter_expn()) and eval(current_filter_expn())=.T.

              In both cases I get "Result set row not found"

                  Lol!. I hope that will be a feature for future release, because it really seems like something very important that's missing, as if someone forgot to include it.
                  When exporting from DBF, its unsightly to see those extra short abbreviated names that we're encouraged to use, also to see ID fields with their multitude of leading zeros.

                  Many thanks for the time Stan. May you have a great day mein.

                    You're exporting to Excel? Use Alpha's ole methods to dress up the result spreadsheet.

                      Ok, I see the OLE in the toolbox, I add it to the form, but what next? Does this have to be set up like an ActiveX?

                        I didn't say ole object, I said method.

                        Save my attachment and import it into a database, code tab - right click - Import. It will add a function named nigel to the database.
                        Create a spreadsheet in Excel and save it to c:\temp with the name of your choice.
                        Go to the interactive window and execute

                        nigel("c:\temp\yourexcelfilename.xls","c:\temp\newexcelfile.xls")

                        Look in the c:\temp directory and examine the newexcelfile.xls

                        nigel - 10-18-2013 -1.txt

                          Hey Stan! I totally appreciate your assistance so far, and I hate to ask more of you, but though I got your sample code to show me what you wanted it to, I just cant apply it to my needs. I tried to replace the relevant areas with the field names that I want exported, but i couldnt get it to work. If you cud apply it to the Alpha Sports Invoice Header table that would be really great.

                            Nigel:
                            If I am understanding your question correctly, you could create a saved operation to export the records to Excel. One of the options of which records to export is "Export currently selected records".
                            So, if you open the browse based on selected records then run the saved operation, it will export these records only.
                            You do not have to make any choices at run time, just run the saved operation with either:
                            export_run()
                            or
                            export_run_silent()

                            You could do the same with an xbasic code, a little bit more involved though.

                              Re: Can AlphaDAO Export to Excel Be Based on Currently Selected Records

                              I'm familiar with that option Gab, my problem is, I want to style the resulting fields in Excel a bit: More user friendly names than the ones used in the DBF tables. format a few of the values like the "ID" fields, remove leading zeros etc. My company has retired Quickbooks POS for this in house app. But Quickbooks exported data looks so much more formatted in Excel.
                              From Quickbooks, they export and used.
                              But from the Alpha app, currently, they export, resize column width, change column names, format ID fields, delete unwanted columns, then they use it.
