Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Invalid Character in Super Control Script

Two of my apps have started behaving badly when the Google Map Super Control is fired.

    Script Error

    Line 720
    Char 172
    InvalidCharacterError

    Any ideas?
I searched for some guidance, but the only thing I found was Server based answers.

Re: Invalid Character in Super Control Script

Well Jerry Brightbill from AS responded very, very quickly, and pointed out that the problem was in IE10 and not an AS issue.
It has been overcome in V12, but not going to be fixed in V11.

So, my workaround is as follows. It's not complete, so I hope someone will chip in and give me a lead on the last bit.

    In the table.
Create a field with the Google Maps URL

    Code.
Create a Clipboard.set_data to pick up the address you are looking for.

    Form.
    Create a button which;
..Copies the current address to the clipboard
    ..Opens the Google Maps URL

Using Ctrl+V insert from the clipboard and then press the Google search button.

So my question is now, how to automatically insert the Clipboard data into the Google Maps search area, and also click through with the search button.
Don't know if it can be done as I will have passed control through IE10 to Google by that point.

Still, I can probably explain away the extra steps as being a feature as opposed to a benefit.

Or I can use MSN maps instead. Ho Hum.

WHEN YOU OPEN THE GOOGLE MAPS URL, THE CURSOR IS RIGHT AT THE "SEARCH" FIELD. Paste into that and send an "enter", and you should be good to go.

Got that Tom, I'd like that bit to be automated.
Fallback is using MSN maps. Works fine.

Sorry Tom, just re-read your suggestions. Will try later if control hasn't been passed to IE.

I'm thinking you need to establish an internet Socket connection, then use the <socket>.write command.

            From the help file...
            <SOCKETS>.WRITE()

            Syntax

            <SOCKETS>.WRITE( String as C [, Length as N ] )

            writes String to the socket

            Argument
            Description

            String
            The character data to send.

            Length
Optional. default = LEN( String ). The number of bytes to send.

            Description

The <SOCKETS>.WRITE() method writes a character string to the Internet connection. Transmission will stop at the end of the String or after Length bytes, whichever is smaller.

Excellent Tom, thanks for taking the trouble to post the details.
              I'll give it a whirl.

Thanks Jon, but I have no control over what version of IE the user has installed.
Have gone with MSN maps for the time being.

Thanks Dave, I see what it's doing, so I'll try it out.
Whether I can get the change of a users machine is another matter.
