Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    PDF Viewer Supercontrol

I download and create a pdf from a MySQL table and then open a form that has the PDF Viewer Supercontrol. The form is complaining that the pdf is in use when it is not. It'll present two error messages (file is in use) and then display the form with the pdf.

I thought at first it was a file open so I did a while loop but that didn't help.

The PDF Viewer Supercontrol gets the file name from a global variable that is populated prior to the file creation.

Don't understand the error as no other application has the file open but the error presents a sharing violation.

    Code:
    'Please Wait
    DIM GLOBAL pDlg1 as waitdialog
    pDlg1.Set_Title("Preparing Screen")
    pDlg1.Create(0,"Message")
    pDlg1.Set_Message("Please wait")
    pDlg1.Set_Bottom_Message("")

    'Execute inline Xbasic code.

'Now, dump the contents of the ResultSet to a variable
    dim v_pdfbin as b

If the pdf is hardcoded, it works without issue. Apparently it doesn't like the global variable

solved; moved the filename from a variable to it being built in the expression within the supercontrol. Second bubbly did the trick!

        Re: PDF Viewer Supercontrol

FYI. It wasn't the variable after all. A variable will work without issue. The reason I was getting the error message was that I was trying to get a page count into a second variable after the document was being viewed. Makes sense.

          Re: PDF Viewer Supercontrol

          Omar,

Could you post an image or two of your "PDF supercontrol". I'm doing a lot of PDF displaying with the native browser in whatever device, and with google document viewer.

Android does not allow viewing of PDF files using any native capability. iOS certainly does. So I use the native viewer where possible and google doc viewer otherwise (using an AJAX callback to pick up the PDF info, format it as required by google, and submit to the viewer).

I am curious about the PDF Viewer Supercontrol. While I'm making stuff happen with Alpha Five, I haven't had any time to look at supercontrols.

Any summary, video, or screen shot will help.

          Thanks!

Judging from your post it appears your doing more web than desktop. Here are the images though..pdfview1.JPGpdfview2.JPGpdfview3.JPG

              Omar,

I didn't realize that this was strictly desktop-focused. I had performed a search and I must have been directed into the v11 region rather than v12.

Looks like it doesn't apply to my mobile circumstance.

Thanks for your uploads... it was educational nonetheless.
