Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: logicalrecord_get() funtion not found under V11

    As I said, I will report it as a bug.
    In the mean time here is a work around, in case you need LogicalRecord_Get() .
    I am attaching a db with just one table and one form.
    Install this Db in your system.
    Then copy the table to your application, unattached it from this Db.
    Dup the form to your new application.

    currentfilter must be in the form you intend to use this variables, it could be hidden.

    Then copy from the form blankform XY the following to your own form in your app/db.

    recno = table.current().logicalrecord_get()
    recs = a5_get_records_in_query("the name of your table",current_filter.value)
    recs2 = a5_get_records_in_query(table.current().name_get(),current_filter3.value)
    ttlrecs = table.current().records_get()
    rec_string = "Viewing record "+calc->recno+" of "+calc->recs+" out of a total of "+calc->ttlrecs

    Place re_string in your form and logicalrecord_get() will work.

    So if you really need it, this will allow you to use it.

      Re: logicalrecord_get() funtion not found under V11

      I do not believe this is a bug.
      Without testing..I do not think logicalrecord_get() will work in a calc window (XY window). It will work in an xbasic code like any table dot variable function.
      If you want it to work in a calc window, you have to incorporate it in an UDF.

        Re: logicalrecord_get() funtion not found under V11

        Must likely you are correct, but here are the facts.
        The way I intented to used did not work. Yet I did develop this process way back under ver9, in 2008, It did work(Actually some one here help me to do it).
        I did try to recreate it under ver9 now and did not work.
        The code still works today in the apps I did create way back.
        If I install the table submitted above in #16, to a new app under any version, I can make it work in any form in the app.
        It will be nice to know why.

          Once in a while you would try one of these functions in the calc window and they do work. They are not meant to but they do. I wouldn't rely on that. As I said, your nest bet is an UDF which is not hard to do.
          If you are using this in a set setting, maybe you need mrecno()

            Thanks for the info. The use was not on a set, but is good to know.
            I will explore mrecno() .

              If I am not mistaken, it should work on a single table as well.

                Re: logicalrecord_get() funtion not found under V11

                As far as I can establish logicalrecord_get() - the error that occurs (when it does) seems related to the TYPE initialization of the function. Which is outside of our control.
                In some FIRST USE circumstances in (form calcs) it gives an error, The error appears to be related to the type not declared as numeric.
                Once you use logicalrecord_set(n) then get() appears to always operate reliably thereafter. When or why this started in A5 or any other explanation "I know nothing" (q.Manuel- Fawlty Towers)
