Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Yes it's MicroSoft - but not necessarily an implied reverence down here either...

re ms and W7 and RTF .. "it should work" .. no known issues?????? however the net is filled with issues with W7 and RTF files.

Okay .. as I have not had any response from my trouble ticket with Alpha, I did not investigation ....

I installed Virtual Box on the machine that must run this app (what a pain to have to do this to solve this issue). I then installed XP and then A5 RT .. and guess what .. it works like a charm.

          Sad ...

Re: function works with host app . but not remote app

Sorry Don, should have mentioned this before.

Don't put the RT applications in the Programme folders on the Win7 machines. This may be your default. Win7 doesn't like systems messing with the files and is a real pain even with UAC turned off.

I presume you have run a compatibility check - it will suggest XP SP3 - and Run as Administrator on the first launch on the Win7 PC's?

So, suggest you try a RT load into a new directory, do a Compat check, and RaA first time.

Re: function works with host app . but not remote app

Ted, thanks for the thoughts ..

              - RT app files in a diff directory on a diff drive than system/Alpha5 executables
              - did so .. it suggested XP SP2
              - ran as Admin ..

Result .. same error and message ..

Alpha indicates that the recent IE 11 updates (great that these are all stand alone apps .. as per Microsoft's anti trust statements) is the culprit here and that they are working on a fix in the near future.

The solution that we have implemented is to install Oracle's Virtual Box on that machine, installed XP SP3 and then the RT (a sledge hammer solution .. for a tack issue), but it works ...

              I love Microsock ..

Re: function works with host app . but not remote app

Please don't be annoyed with me as I did previously ask if you couldn't upload a simple test workspace for us to look at but you declined to do so.

I'm having trouble trying to grasp your problem. You say the error message comes up when trying to edit an RTF field. Do you mean a Rich Text Memo field?

I created a simple test workspace with one table, three fields and a Rich Text Memo field. I then created a form and ran the form. I have windows 7, IE 11 with Install new versions automatically checked and I don't have any issues adding records or editing the Rich Text memo field.

I apologize if I'm not addressing your problem.

Re: function works with host app . but not remote app

Ron, I would be nuts to be annoyed at persons who offer help ... if that is the case then I apologize.

I guess I am a little stubborn and always need to try to solve issues myself .. but this one makes no sense ..

Your suggestion of a test system is one that I may take advantage of as the A5 solution is possibly months away.

Now I have to create the test environment and figure out how to upload a test app.

                  tanx. again .. Don

I apologize if I'm not addressing your problem.
                    Not sure you can Ron.
The infrastructure looks like it's a mixture of XP and Win7 running Runtime. Are you able to test it over 2 machines?
The current app works on the development machine .. but one aspect of the app fails on the remote system.
                    This is the problem.

Eureka! It looks like the error message which has come about by the introduction of IE11.
Is it possible to roll back one of the Win7 PC's to IE 9 or 8 and retry?
If it is this error, probably V12 is your only hope if you are using SuperControl and/or Grids.

Re: function works with host app . but not remote app

As per MS .. one cannot roll back to a previous version with W7 and IE11 .. unless you want to do a total reload ..

I love Microsock great to be the bully ... when will the industry understand that ...

Not Win 7, just the IE11.
