Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Embedded Browse Button Display Problem

I have placed a button in a column of an embedded browse using conditional formating. The button has an bitmap followed by text. The bitmap and text show up properly on the records they are supposed to but as only the image and text, not a raised button. When the cursor is flown over the button appears. I would like to have the button displayed full time for the conditional field not just when flown over, any ideas?

    Sample?

The issue is, which do you think more likely? Someone attempts to duplicate what you say you have done and make it work, or someone tinkers with a sample of what you say doesn't work the way you want?

Re: Embedded Browse Button Display Problem

Supposed to look something like this? (I captured the setup that generated this conditional button with the chrome logo I just added)
Even though the button works great and it is raised (hard to see) , doesn't the preview (circled in red) look nice?
At least one of the previews works while building the button. (I reported the bug ages ago.) Not too long ago, none of these preview screens worked (so you had to build the button "blindly" as it only displayed properly once embedded in the form.

I did a lot of experimenting with conditional buttons with code so that data could be entered and validated before it ends up in the browse field.
(using "invisible by default" buttons that look just like the underlying fields in the browse)

Clicking on them using a "ui_get" (dialog style/modal): vc_Value=ui_get_number("QUANTITY:","Sold",str(this.quantity.value),"") prompts for a data entry and captures the text into vc_Value.

FYI: These button settings work using the Alpha Sports v.10.5 theme. (It could be the them you've applied, or possibly something to do with the flyover events etc.) I don't mess with themes too much. But as I recall, certain "effects" (like flyover) and certain theme combinations can (used to) wreak havoc.

PS: The Enable Expression & Expression fields (on all browse buttons, conditional or otherwise) only work in preview. (the last two settings) Thes settings have not been "respected" on a live form for quite some time. ~ The workaround is the test for the value in the buttons event event, and issue an "END" accordingly. The button may "activate", but it won't do anything. (You can always add a ui_beep() and/or keep the button conditionally hidden (as shown below.) Another interesting thing you can do with conditional hidden buttons is conditionally control the color of the text. (For instance: Fields with a 0 value show up red, and have parenthesis around them when they are negative.) In the screen capture below, all the quantity fields are active buttons. But only when the fields quantity = 2 do they look like buttons. (proof of concept)

Note: The second image is of the conditional button default settings setup where the conditional button is completely hidden and just looks like a browse data entry field.....

It's all about the "framework." (I suppose an "a5-induced" hard drive crash is now in order?)

        Robert,

I will have to try what you have done.
Attached is the most basic sample of putting a button in a browse. You dont see the button until you flyover in the test form.

Looks fine here. The height of the browse rows was originally a bit less than it should have been to properly display all of the button but I could still see the ends.

            Stan,

I am using the latest beta build of v11 and my display looks like below. The button shown is being flown over by the cursor, using the same files above. Very odd.

What are your display settings? Resolution and color quality? Try tweaking them.

I am at 1920x1080 and I tried many combos and changed from 32 to 16 bit color and same thing. What build do you have?

I think I have determined that this is an XP problem. I am running the same build on several machines using the XP for development. The Win 7 shows correctly.

                        Its a simple fix...

I was using the "classic" Windows Theme. Once I selected the XP theme, the button came up...
