Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Copy Prev Record Field Value in a Browse Using RtClick

The user enters about 300 records/day in a browse.
Whole groups of similar records can have one or more fields that are the same value.
This is not always the case, so I do not use a Table Rule Default.
I would like to have the Immediate prev. record's value in a field, copy into the Current record (same field) by a simple RtClick of the Mouse.

    Any way to do that?
    Thanks.

Actually, ctrl-Shift-f has no result, for whatever reason.
In any case which would max the productivity:
      RtClick or ctrl-shift-f
      or
crtl-c the prev recd field then just ctrl-v for the remaining records that need that value, which is what she does now.
Unfortunatey, there are 2 fields that need copy-fwd ability.

Re: Copy Prev Record Field Value in a Browse Using RtClick

Why not use a Browse row button that calls a script to perform the copy. That is what I use (attached). It is called from the event code from an embedded browse button. Maybe you can use it replacing the field names, browse names and such.

Tom, it occurs to me that the onKey event in your form might be used as the "hook" for your scripts. Could use different key combinations for each of the two fields. Data entry folks wouldn't have to touch the mouse.

Re: Copy Prev Record Field Value in a Browse Using RtClick

Martincole, years ago, asked a similar (related) question. If I remember correctly, Martin wanted to enter today's date or something to that effect. I posted a zip file with an example showing how to do that or anything else with right-click.
Basically, it involves modifying (or writing a new RC menu) the alpha built-in right click menu.
It's neither hard, nor scary. You could always revert back to the original menu. That is if you have to do it with a right-click.

You could also write a script and assign it to a key (or most likely a combo) to do what ctrl-shift-f does. I don't use any of these combos, too many fingers on the keyboard at the same time that's too much work for me, but my guess ctrl-shift-f will work on the field objects on the form and not within the browse and probably just the parent, but I really don't know nor had a chance to test it to be able to tell for sure.
I am not inclined to test it either, it's a waste of time for me not to mention how can you get people to remember all these combos? I think right-click is a more elegant way of doing that.

You could also do this with the row double click event (don't like it, inconsistent in my version, but you could try it in yours).

You could also do it with a button on the form, a button in the browse as Mike suggested or with an added menu item.

If you go the right-click route:
In the OnSave event of the browse, assign the value of that field to a variable
When you right click the field in the new record, you just assign the value of the variable to that field.

                  OMG!
                  This works sooooo good.
I never could make the onkey work. It kept returning the key value.. Maybe another time.
I have many OnKeys working on Form Fields, but Browse's are another matter.
And, I had to get this published asap.
I put an X symbol on the button on any record row that had subject field(s) blank.
Otherwise it shows the Btn & Title.
Many thanks to all of you!
                  What a time saver!
