Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re-configuring Set

    I have a set I created in Alpha5V11.
As part of that SET, when I imported one of the tables, it had some misinformation. There were 3 zeros in a Numbers field that did not require these zeros. I corrected this field by eliminating the 3 ending zeros in that table. Thereafter I saved my work.

When I viewed the Set, I note that the data in that Table still continues to use the older data including the .000.

In my old Alpha4V6 DOS program, whenever I made a change in any of my Tables in a SET, I could simply run RECONFIGURE DATABASE. That would then update that table so that the new data would appear in my Set.

I tried Updating Records Operation using the Genie but could not find the appropriate Operation to perform.

Is there a similar approach in Alpha5V11 to the Reconfigure Database. in Alpha4V6? My goal is to have the corrected data appear in my Set.

I am not very good with computers.

Can someone help me to be able to get this updated information to correctly appear in my Set?

    Thank you for your help,

    Howie

    Re: Re-configuring Set

I corrected this field by eliminating the 3 ending zero’s in that table.
Not sure what that means. If you edit the structure of the table in question and set the decimal places for a field to zero then the field will no longer display the trailing .000 in the default form or browse. If you have saved forms or browses you will have to edit the instance of the field on each by right clicking on it, select Properties, Format tab, and set the decimals to zero there as well.
    There can be only one.

      Re: Re-configuring Set

Howie, as you mention that you are not very good with computers, here is a bit more info.
When you design a Table and a field is Numeric (N), the size can include decimals. This is so that you can capture as many decimal points as you may need.
When you design a Form, as Stan says, you can change the number of decimals which are displayed.

You can have as many decimals as you need in the Table - and you may need a lot for calculations - but modify the display by changing the Format. Select only the field contents, and not both Field Name and Content when attempting to change the Format.

      So in the Table you might have a structure of;

      Field_Name, Numeric, Length 12, Decimals 3 = Field_Name 12345678.123

And in the Form, the attributes for that field as Width 12, Decimals 0 = 12345678

The Table and the Form data are separate and you can change the display content if the Table has the information available.

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.
