Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Yeap, I am in a cloud.
      Two things:
1: Like it was said "There is no solution that fit your wishes. An A5 desktop application must reside on a computer. There is no "cloud" option here. "by john michaels
2: I did search the forum for the word cloud and got nothing. You did.

A server still the only solution. Thanks Stan.

        Mike,
I think Preston has been working hard on a way to do exactly that.

My own thoughts are to place the data on a remote server somewhere, map a drive to it and go. I am sure it may not be that simple, but I do know that with win8 and win7 you can may a drive letter to a hosted account if the host allows it and you can map a letter to a ftp source.

That thread is taking me out of the cloud and I think I am touching ground.
The idea sound very good. In my case will probably work, as it will be one user at a time for a prticular table.
I do not have the issue of users going to the same table and saving.
            Thanks David. Great tip.

Just to have this be said and know.
We use DROPBOX as a cloud based data repository. Because Dropbox has "physical" folders present on the users machine locally that synchs with the cloud, the folders can be pointed to and be a component of the Alpha application, and we have certain tables in the database that map to the Dropbox folder. We have a table in that Dropbox folder that is "tbls_in_use" that when a table is opened by a form or browse, the table that is opened is marked in the tbl_in_use table as occupied. The action of opening a form or browse first petitions the tbl_in_use table to detect whether the table is occupied or available. If available, the tble_in_use is marked as in_use and the form/browse is opened. If ocupied, a message is returned to the user that the table is in use currently. Because there is a delay in the synch process between local and cloud folders, the sequence for the petition is made to execute three times over a span of 2 seconds, and made the rule in the script that when the last two petitions are that the table is available, then the petition is considered as available and the action to open the table is permitted. Because we have few users and the instances of interference/conflicts is very low, this has worked for us. Not perfect, but it has been workable. It still remains, that the application is on a local machine, not cloud based.
