Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Don't get discouraged - Alpha is supporting the desktop, but in V12 - runs 399 for the desktop only
they will continue fixing bugs in V12 desktop

Re: Which desktop version is the most stable.

            Martin,

I could have purchased V-12, however, I was in a hurry to get a project done, and I did not have the time to learn the new interface. Also, I noticed that most of their tutorials or help was directed to web-based design. Not that I have anything against it, I just feel that they don’t care much about desktop users anymore. I could very well be wrong, but that is the impression I got. Even with V-11, I find that.

As for V-12, I could have purchased for just $50 more, that is not much, but again, I was not convinced that the support and fixes would be there without the subscription. I must say that I am not the only one getting this feeling. If I am wrong, than I feel that Alpha has not done a good job at projecting that.

Finally let me say that I have always loved Alpha, and as angry as I feel, I truly hope that I am 100% wrong, and that I am just misreading or misunderstanding everything.

            Robert

Re: Which desktop version is the most stable.

Well this is my problem now.
Dev = Version 3788 Build 4187 - that is the latest.
The RT Plus update will install but not launch, so I had to reinstall Version 3381 Build 4096, which was the last "official" patch.
Fixed it, and I had to reinstall my original V11, apply last official patch, and then the unofficial patch.
The only thing that changed recently on my dev machine was a new installation of an MFC Printer.
Selwyn replied almost immediately to my bug report and suggested an approach or two, so he is very much on the case.

              @ Robin.
I have tried repeatedly to get the patch officially released. The closest I got was a message back from Richard who replied that the person responsible was on holiday. That was about 9 months ago.
Jerry and Richard "believe" that it is OK to go into production as there have been no adverse comments. So it's back to us testers then?

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.
