Error in file.copy from a table source

I get this error.... The system can not find specied file

img_count= TABLECOUNT("t_scoring.DBF", ".T.")
tbl = table.open("t_scoring",FILE_RW_EXCLUSIVE)
tbl.batch_begin()
FOR i = 1 TO img_count
filename1 = "C:\ACCDB\Pict_upload\Originalfile"
newfilename1 = "C:\ACCDB\Pict_Comp\Specidnewname"
file.copy(filename1,newfilename1)
' I get the error here
NEXT i
tbl.batch_end()
end

Scope: to copy files listed in the t_scoring table from Pict_upload to Pict_Comp
Originalfile is a field in the t_scoring with the names of the original files in C:\ACCDB\Pict_upload
Specidnewname is a field in the t_scoring with the name of the new file to be in C:\ACCDB\Pict_Comp

Why the error?

How are you fetching the record in t_scoring to get the field value? Your script doesn't appear to be doing that.

You are correct I am missing the extraction from the table the Originalfile and Specidnewname field values.
I just recreate it: But I still get the error "can not find specified file"

Since it is unlikely that all of your filenames exactly fill the fields they occupy I suggest you trim both in the assignments.

OldName=rtrim(tbl.Originalfile)
NewName=rtrim(tbl.Specidnewname)

Also these are not doing what you intend.

Oldfilename1 = "C:\ACCDB\Pict_upload\OldName"
newfilename1 = "C:\ACCDB\Pict_Comp\NewName"

Should be

Oldfilename1 = "C:\ACCDB\Pict_upload\\"+OldName
newfilename1 = "C:\ACCDB\Pict_Comp\\+NewName

Stan I did not have to use the RTRIM() , but I will add it, just in case.

Do you understand the difference between

Oldfilename1 = "C:\ACCDB\Pict_upload\OldName"
and
Oldfilename1 = "C:\ACCDB\Pict_upload\\"+OldName

Not a 100%, maybe 50%?. I belive that by adding the \ is making alpha use the rest as a file name.
The use of the + is a common practice in alpha to conacatenate.

How far am I?

I took that code from the sample file.copy in the documentation. There it did not have the \ or th +

Oldfilename1 = "C:\ACCDB\Pict_upload\OldName"

Alpha reads/understands this as
set the value of Oldfilename1 to "C:\ACCDB\Pict_upload\OldName"
literally that text inside the outer quotes.

Oldfilename1 = "C:\ACCDB\Pict_upload\\"+OldName

Alpha reads/understands this as
set the value of Oldfilename1 to "C:\ACCDB\Pict_upload\" and concatenate the value in OldName to the end of that.

The error message you were getting about the file not being found occurred because

"C:\ACCDB\Pict_upload\OldName"

was not found.
