Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Embedded browse row colors that won't stick - A Fix!

I am working in an app that has been thru a multitude of upgrades and of course ran into the problem of getting the row colors to 'stick' when I edited a set based form with an embedded browse. So what I did was create a new form for only the table I am using in the set, and created an embedded browse there, then copy and pasted that browse onto my set based form.

    Works perfect!

I have not experienced lost row colours after editing a set for a form that contains an embedded browse.
Having said that, I generally use row colour by column according to specific field values and events, maybe you refer to something different.

        Ray,
I would have left the browse alone except I had a lost field on the form and the only way to get rid of it was to delete the browse based on that table. It was when i tried to add the browse back in the normal way that the formatting trouble started even after compacting the set.

          An Addendum to this thread:

When the copied browse is added to the form be sure to give the browse' object name something new. I discovered that if the old browse was Browse1 the change left any other problems the old browse had - even a compact wouldn't fix. Then after saving the form and closing it, you can go back and edit the object name back. And of course compact the set.

In a recent case, I had a child browse that wouldn't link properly as I fetched thru the parent records - which at one time did work. I had a lot of formatting and events on that browse and did not want to recreate it. Actually I tried to recreate it on a new form and ran into the same old row colors that wouldn't stick.

So I made a blank form based just on the child table and copied my errant embedded browse to it; saved the new form then deleted the old browse on the original form and copied the new browse to the old form with a new object name. Saved & closed my original form; compacted the set, then edited the form to rename the browse - then saved and compacted the set again. And it works fine again!

I've never had success trying to copy complex embedded browses, ones with colors enabled, embedded buttons and other coding.

              Hi Mike,
How is your luck with using conditional masks for a phone number in field rules? Cause that doesn't seem to work anymore either. I seem to spend most of my time trying to get things that used to work, working again.
