Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

file_remove using wild characters is not working for me

    file_remove using wild characters
I am using this in a script and it does not delete the files and no errors displayed when using *.*
    a) a5_file_remove("C:\A_accounts\owners\*.*") do not work
I tried this too a5_file_remove("C:\A_accounts\owners\\"+*.*) either

    b) a5_file_remove("C:\A_accounts\owners\james.txt") using specfic names, it does work

what is wrong with this syntax in a)?
If *.* does not work, how to do it.

Don't you need the extension as well?

may be it is expecting a character string as an argument, not a whole list of names?

          What happens with accounts\owners\thisowner.ext
          Like accounts\owners\ted_giles.txt.

          Or quotes around the *.*
          "*.*" ?

You might need to get a proper list of files before you start deleting.

Perhaps a test to see if the file exists will throw up something.

Re: file_remove using wild characters is not working for me

I think a5_file_remove expects single file and removes single file.
if you want to remove entire contents of a directory then you may have iterate thru the names in a script and supply the names to the a5_file_remove or if you are courageous
            do very carefully
            dir_remove_recursive(your_directory)
            dir_create(your_directory)

So the file_remove is only for one file.
It will have to be an script to read the names and deletete each.
I could do it in DOS Bat file and them exe the bat file and them call the exe in a script.

dir_remove_recursive(your_directory) dir_create(your_directory It may be worth a try.

Yes, that's why the documentation states.

The FILE.REMOVE() method erases a particular file
Take a look at the examples for *FOR_EACH() for a suggestion on deleting multiple files in a directory.
                There can be only one.

Sorry Mr Gabriel, I just saw your post.
I like it as it gives great deal of error checking.
The one I used by Stan, was more appropiate for this paricular case, as it was going to delete files in a bunch of subdirectories for a kind of end of year operation and no interaction at all.
Your code is very good. I will for sure have a chance to use shortly.

You DO need to make sure the user ACTUALLY wants to delete the file(s). There are no second chances with file removal. You cannot restore it once removed. It's permanent.

You both are correct, Part of the complete script process has an start question to continue or cancel with warnings.
