Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Can A5 do this? Multi Tabbed Toolbars

I thought perhaps a modeless dialog might be able to accomplish this, but don't know where to begin... Any ideas?
This is no doubt a web component - which of course A5 can do; only problem: buttons on a tabbed ui only open other web components, not forms.

I have one that does a dropdown, but not like what you are showing. I basically use it for reports that fill preprinted forms and such. It lists my names in a downward fashion either from a menu or a button and when you click a chosen item, it does what you asked.

The code is long to put on here, but if you want it, I will copy it out and zip it for you.

        Robin,
In the standard toolbar builder in the definition for a button the first(top) field is a drop down for what to do 'Before Button'. In this drop-down choose New Tab then give the tab a name. Do the same for each series of buttons you want on a new tab. ie start a new tab 'Before' the first button in each series. Make sure you go the the third tab of the builder and clear the check box for 'Use mini-tabs?' so the tab name shows. This should give you tabs but not sure how pretty you can make them. Once you get the main structure of the toolbar you could always grab the xBasic code behind it and play with the formatting. A toolbar is just a specifically formulated xDialog.

Not sure I fully understand what you are trying to do Robin.
The Tabbed form can contain other tabbed forms, so it is quite possible to nest the toolbars.

If this would help: It is currently attached to a butto, but also can be placed in a menu wich I have also done on occasion.

              Hi Tim,
I tried that but it gives you one tab above each button. I don't see how you can get a 'series' of buttons for that tabbed button- but I will try it again.

                Dave,
All those buttons appear to be on a form, not a toolbar - is that correct?

                  Hi Ted,
A tabbed FORM can do that, but I want a global toolbar.

The toolbar editor allows you to easily add tabs. Simply specify New Tab in the Before Button property.

                      Robin,
as I said, it can go either place. It is just code. Kind of like xdialog. I will get it out and zip the code for you, if you wish.
I have placed this and similar on buttons and on custom menus. It works the same whether button or menu.

Don't do it for each button. Only do it for the first button in your series.

Well I got it to work (in a v10 app) - but the aesthetics leave a lot to be desired. Notice the space under the toolbar where my wallpaper form begins? Also the background of the tabs is WinD - a yucky shade of beige. The only color that worked on the toolbar itself was white. So I am guessing there is some tweaking I need to do in the xdialog?

Which is beyond my limited abilities...which consists mostly of potentially great ideas and very little skill!
