Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    GRP

Ok, it has been a long time since i used GRP and I am drawing a brain fart right now.

I have a set that has a main product table and a one to many child table. The key and linking filed is "Style"

So one "Style" record in the parent table can have many linked records in the child table.

The child table creates a new record linked back to the parent and the field "Color" for each child record.

So the parent can have Style = PC61 and the Child can Have Style = PC61 with Color = Royal, Style = PC61 with Color = Black and so on.

Each Style and Color record in the child then has quantity fields for each of the sizes in-stock for that Style and Color and then a field that is the total of all the values in the different size fields.

So using a calculated field with " total(Catalog_Stock->Stock_Tot,GRP->Grand) " gets me the total amount of items in stock for all styles and colors. The field " Catalog_Stock->Stock_Tot " is the total of all item sizes for that style and color. So this part works as I do want to show the total amount of stock on hand for all styles and colors.

What I am having trouble figuring out again is I also want to display the total amount of items for that Style. So if a style has stock in 12 colors, the total of all items in all colors for that Style.

    Did I make any sense?

    Re: GRP

The Group and Sub_Group are optional parameters that define the range of records to summarize, and may or may not be required, depending upon the context of the summary calculation. Possible values for GRP – >Group and GRP – >Sub_Group include:

    GRAND (all records)

The name of the current table

The name of a table in the current set

The name of a grouping level that is defined in a report layout

DETAIL (over the records in the detail section)
    so you probably want total(Catalog_Stock->Stock_Tot,GRP->Grand,GRP->child_table_name)
    There can be only one.

Gives the same results. I know this is going to end up being something simple. Now I am trying to do this on a form and not on a report if that makes any difference.

        So using a calculated field..............

Where is this calculated field? Table, report, form?

Try doing the calculation in report first and get the calculation there.
        There can be only one.

Stan, the Stock_Tot filed is in the Catalog_Stock table and is a calculated field in the table. It is on the form.

Then I have a two calculated fields on the form.

One is Calc->allcolors which I want to calculate and display the total amount of stock of all colors for a specific style (This is the one I cannot get to work right yet).

The second is Calc->allstyles which calculates and shows the total amount of stock for all styles and all colors. This one works right.

            Re: GRP

            Got it..

total(Catalog_Stock->Stock_Tot,GRP->Catalog,GRP->Catalog_Stock) gets the total of items in all colors of a specific style.

Catalog is the parent table and Catalog_stock is the child table.
