Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Tables in design / Dropdown

I have a set based on three tables (Orders, Customers, Consultants)... I have checked this... there are ONLY three tables in the set.

    BUT

When I am in design mode working on a form based on this set, the drag drop list contains the three tables PLUS two additional tables: OrderPay and OrderPay1 ie two instances of the same table (OrderPay). These tables show up in the drag drop list but are NOT in the set?!

Is there some way that I can get rid of these two extra tables that incorrectly show up in the drop-down list?

Have you tried renaming the errant set so you can keep its layouts, and recreate the set?

yes... and I recreated a set with the two errant tables... copied the form to the new set... then dropped the two errants...
they still show up in the drag drop :-(

Re: Tables in design / Dropdown

Am I misunderstanding? The new set should have been created without those two tables - no? If the tables are not needed then copying the form should still work on the new set. But I wouldn't do it that way; instead make the new set, open the form on the old set in design mode, and use copy and paste for the objects you want on the new form based on the new set.

I suspect there is a problem with a lookup or dropdown object on the form...

well... I spent the last hour or so recreating the form as you suggested...
All was going well until i was copying / pasting to the last tab on a tabbed object (with 12 other very full tabs, most with conditional objects... not fun copying these!)... all of a sudden... the two errant tables appeared!...
I tried deleting all of the objects on this tab... the errant tables did not go away...
              so...
The offending tab contains fields that are calculated using a function that operates on the errant table. It doesn't make sense (to me) that this would result in the tables mysteriously appearing in the drop down list.. but maybe???

I may have to start from the beginning and recreate the form... RATS!

okay the tables appear, and you know the name of those table, why should it bother you?
I don't do desktop, so I am not aware of consequences of seeing the table in the drop down field pick list.
                thanks for reading

                  good point Govindan...
I am about to deploy this app and I am concerned that 'unexpected' (gottcha's) will show up down the road if modifications are made to the form. I am probably overthinking the problem, but I would rather solve any problems now, rather than when the app is on-line.
If thinks don't resolve in another hour or two of effort I will put the issue aside.
                  Thanks

Re: Tables in design / Dropdown

Now you know that whatever that function is doing, it is most likely leaving the tables open - recheck your function. If you have error checking in the function perhaps you can trap what might be skipping the section where you close the table. If it is the function, then you may not have to redo the form...
