Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Graphic Designer Needed

    Hi,

It seems every year I make a resolution to update my tired, boring app, and every year I put it off. But this time I am determined.

I want to work with someone with an eye for color, to layout forms and their objects (buttons, browses, tabbed objects) that are modern looking, engaging and have eye appeal. I'd then go through my 100+ forms and copy the appearance. Since my usual user is a female, a feminine appeal would be nice (as opposed to my current hammer and nail theme).

I think I heard that V12 has more options with Style Sheets and Themes that may make this process easier. I have V12 and could move my app to it, but for now it is in V11.

I'm looking to PAY someone to help me with this - Pleeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzz help!!!

How about some screenshots? Perhaps we can make suggestions - or a template...

            Hi Tom,

Alpha has style sheets already there. You can enhance any of them and then save as your own. It works pretty well. I do see what you mean and most programmers have issue with beauty + functionality.

Once you have a complete style sheet like you want it, you just open each form and select that style sheet and the forms changes to match the choices. Remember, you can overwrite the stylesheets with your own choices.

I generally prefer blue glass and then modify it. Current app, it is now bluglassa for the application.

Looks like some moderator/owner thought this thread fits in another forum from your original choice.

Or do you mean to talk about something else?

In addition to what Dave said:
I would start with a dummy table and create a form with all the elements I intend to use. And before saving it to a new stylesheet - be sure to add different styles for buttons, text , browse etc., with unique names so you can have more than one choice when you want to apply it to your existing form. Eg., I have XP text only buttons and transparent bitmap only buttons, also Header text, help text and the like. Then I name the buttons B_xp, B_trans on the template form so I can choose them from the stylesheet - else you will only have "default".

Also for about $20 you can get Cal Locklin's Group Format function - which is a big help for these sorts of changes to a form.
