Version 9 code doesn't work in version 11

I'm having an issue where code that worked in version 9 does not work in version 11. I have a form based on a set. The form has a read only browse attached to the first child table. There is a button which when pushed selects the next record in the browse. Upon reaching the last record in the browse, the first record is then selected.

I've tried many different variations of the code all to no avail. There is no error message. The only line that appears to run is the last line. I tried running debug() and that doesn't work either. Says no script is running.

I don't see anything wrong in there. If it worked in 9, it should work in 11

It sounds silly, but I assume I am not the only one who does this.

Try putting a ui_msg_box("Test", "line 1"), etc. on the button. (I hate to expose my childish way of narrowing down issues in code, but it does work!)

Each time it pops up successfully, move the message box down in the code, replacing the line in the message box with info for each line, like the value of t.field_name.

Try combinations of .refresh() and .repaint(), too. My simple mind has never quite come to grasp what effect .resynch() and the two aforementioned actually have one over the other.

Lastly, try using a saved copy of the default form, and move the button over. Does it work there?

I created a test database with a form called "TestSetForm". I created a button with the same code that is not working and it doesn't work in my test database. So something has changed from version 9 to version 11.

I've looked at this so many times. The code is so simple so I do not know what I'm missing. Run my test form and you will see what is happening.

Place this code on the button.
You want the browse record to move, so move it on the browse.
The table will always follow browse movements, use the table to test for last record, browse does not offer one in time.
It is good practice to share the SAME table instance with the browse ... table.current(2)

On a side note, your example didn't do anything different in version 9 than it did in version 11.

The code was originally written over 20 years ago probably in version 5. It worked fine through version 9. I'm in the process of updating the application to version 11 and this code stopped working. I understand your code and thank you very much. It works great.

Hi Craig and thank you for your effort. The example wouldn't work in version 9 as I wrote it using version 11 to see if the form was corrupted. Had I written the example in version 9, it will have worked in version 9.

I would not, as a rule, use or recommend browse fetch_next() in code for processing data, especially in a loop. It is laboriously slow.
I know, I have tried it in a loop through a couple of dozen records in a browse - it handles too many ops - screen refreshes and table synchronization who knows what else.
Try depress the NEXT button in quick succession to see - you will probably overstep it half the time.

A couple years back, I updated a 12 year project from 4.5 to 9.

It was a massive task, as every array had to be converted from parenthesis to brackets. Dialog boxes had changes that were needed. Scripts that were long that spanned across several pages, as 4.5 had a limited script buffer size, were condensed.

In some respects, the lack of new features on the desktop side does make life easier, although I miss the excitement that new native enhancements used to stir. As it stands, it is still an amazing product on the desktop side.

I'm glad the issue is resolved.
