Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    dynamic button text on report

I created a report with a button on it. I dynamically change the text on each button to match an id number for the record. when the button is clicked, it's supposed to bring up a form with the correct record.
the number prints correctly on the preview, but when I hover over the button, the id number changes to the last id number on the page. so, when any button is clicked, it always brings up the same record.

anyone know why the button text changes when I hover the mouse and click the button?

To preview the report all records that fit the report filter are fetched in turn. I've never tried what you suggest but I imagine when you hover you're seeing something display the current record number/id, which is the last record.

I was able to duplicate your issue with the exception of the form being opened here opens to the correct record. I used a simple action script to open a form with the filter current recrod only. Appears to me that the button text changing on hover is a byproduct of the dynamic property "firing". Why the button text reverts to the proper value when not being hovered is a mystery to me.

thanks, stan. I just ended up placing the field on the form and using the on push event to load the form with the correct data. I could use a separate button and make it work, done that plenty of times. I was just trying to use 1 less field because it barely fits on a sheet now.

I found if I disabled the flyover event, the button text would stay but it would still bring up the incorrect record.

I'm intrigued, "onPush" action on a field?
I see there is an event OnPush for a field. i have never looked. So I tried a msg_box() on the OnPush event.
        As I expected ... . nothing
How do you do it Gary?

Did you preview the report and then click on the field?

as al stated, did you preview the report and then click on the field?
one application I use it for, is a client has to verify that the ingredients used in products they purchase haven't changed. so the person can take a tablet, preview the open po report and click a button next to that particular item. that loads a label they have scanned and stored on the server and they can easily compare the 2 labels.
if they don't match, they can't received it. or they can, but then my client needs to change the ingredient statement on the product they're producing.

Not having seen your report...if the id field appears in the report, you can change the appearance of it to look like a button and put your script in the onpush event that reads the field value.

              button.jpg

I just added a button in the section then copied the appearance to the field and deleted the button. Then I tweaked the flyover events to change the color and bold the text.

This is my script to open a detail view of the record:

              Code:
              dim gorec as c
              gorec = this.value
              choice = ui_get_list("Edit "+gorec,1,"Act Menu Detail","ActMenuX")
              select
                  case choice = ""
                  	'user cancelled
                  	end
                  case else
'put your own script or udf here
                  	Go_frm(choice,"sortkey",gorec)
              end select

in isolation and checked it on a form. This functionality is new to me, and does provide interesting possibilities. Thanks.
