Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Display a field with multiple colors

    I am trying to display a number in a field when you open a form and show it to display changing color every second from red, blue and finally in green and remain as green.
    In other words a form open and there is field with Number in it. The color equation normally sets the color depending on some definitions.
    I am trying to start to display in red for 1 second, then blue and the next second in green.
    I was trying secolor, but I got nowhere..
    1 Is it possible,?
    2 Some command,like topparent:vNumb1.show() then wait_until(.F., 1, 1) and so on but with a color change attribute.
    What could be that code/attribute?
    Please advise, thanks

      Almost, but blue vs yellow. This request was originally for one project, but I see use for other possibilities, if I learn how to accomplish it.
      A way to enhance display and get attention.
      I wonder if there are other ways to enhance display using Alpha.

        Are you using the form timer event, checking the current color, and then changing to the next color, then when green - leaving it as green?

        It doesn't sound like anything else will trigger the process...

          No at this point I am unable to change the color:
          No I do not know how to check for color or change the color field font.
          I saw documentation, but is not clear to me.
          If I could change the color setting then I would use wait_until(.F., 1, 1) between color assignment.

          This is my setup in a form:

          Event onfetch
          topparent:Score.hide()

          event on timer: form has 4 sec setting
          topparent:Score.show()

          So the form opens and show a black screen then in 4 seconds Score shows up.

          The settings for the score field color equation is case(.T.,"Green on Black") font 28

            Something like this?

            Download, UnZip, Add this table to a database/workspace and open the FontColorSwitching form.

                Can you copy that link and paste it into a clean browser window?

                The file is not on the Alpha messageboard.

                So you are saying you can't download it or once downloaded you get an error.

                  Ted,

                  Download, UnZip, Add this table to a database/workspace and open the FontColorSwitching form.
                  I did " Add tables " then I was able to open the form.

                      Thanks Al, got it working now. Is there a way of adding a delay? That's where I was heading.

                        Add Sleep( nYour_delay_number ) between each case.

                          Plus a bit of info in Alpha code. That is always great.
                          Thanks.

                            Yes. The one second delay is set on the form properties FORMS TAB where the timer delay in seconds is set.

                            The timer value is also available to code using topparent.Timer_interval, where in this case it's topparent.Timer_interval=1

                            Adding a delay in the script would cause 2 timers to be running when only one is needed.

                            Might be able to save a few milliseconds if you start the script with this code that ends the script when the final color is reached.

                            if topparent:score.Font.Color = "Green" then
                            end
                            end if

                            Probably some other tricks could add to the functionality, but I chose to KISS.
