Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

DIR_PUT() works in Development Version but not when running the Runtime?

DIR_PUT() works in Development Version but not when running the Runtime?

I have a script that SAVES my data and compiles it into a ZIP file, to which I rename the file at the end with *.DAT for example to store my data for the database.

Now, if I set DIR_PUT("D:\SampData"), in my script it works fine in the developer's edition but not the runtime.

For example: If I suddenly decide instead to Save the file to "C:\Test" from the dialog in windows when it comes up, it saves to that location just fine.

But after that, when my Application starts up again later (using the runtime), the DIR_PUT("D:\SampData") line of code is supposed to redirect to that directory if I want to save another file again, but instead, it remembers that I previously SAVED the file to "C:\Test", and ignores the fact I want it to go to "D:\SampData"?? It will NOT go to "D:\SampData" whilst using the Runtime. Works just fine in the development environment though?

Has anyone ever encountered such an anomaly? And, if so, any ideas or solutions??

I am quite puzzled by this! : ( I hope someone has an idea. Many thanks in advance!

Please post the script and tell us how it's called.

On the main form, the button calls the 'script_play_local("scr_BackupDataset4b")'. BTW, I have other applications where it does seem to work, but here, can't figure out the problem!

      The script itself is attached.

My apologies, disregard the first script, I uploaded the wrong one - this is the one I am using (attached)! :)

Addendum: BTW, if this helps.... The application I'm having the difficulty in is a "Duplicate" to another application. The one I copied from is my Vehicle Service Tracker, and I subsequently duplicated it and customized it to be a Home Maintenance tracker to keep track of household fix ups etc. The Vehicle app works fine with the DIR_PUT(), but the Home app does not. I renamed numerous tables and it works in every way perfectly, all except for that DIR_PUT().

My thought is, perhaps A5 doesn't like duplication of an app, or it's "wired" unknowingly into my other apps somehow, not sure. I have another contractor's app, that when I save data to a specific folder in there, funny enough, the HOME app remembers that folder as well, ignoring my DIR_PUT() function! Hmmmmm!

have you tried 'uncommenting' the dir_put line?

Uncommenting?? Seriously? It's not commented out. Why would it work in the Developer Edition and NOT the runtime? Why would you suggest "uncommenting" in the first place? If you're referring to the line further down, that line is irrelevant to the DIR_PUT() statement near the top of the script.

I could be wrong but dir_put looks commented out to me.

I know it is "Commented Out" on the second instance, BUT, the first instance is where I have instantiated that command. It doesn't need to be UNCOMMENTED on the second instance you pointed out.

Where you pointed, it does not make any difference. I'm declaring DIR_PUT() above as you've noticed. EVEN IF I uncomment that one out, it still does not do what it is supposed to do.
And I believe this issue is somehow because I "duplicated" another application, and this NEW app is doing this. I do not get this problem with my other apps, or the one I duplicated from. The code above is identical in the originating application, and it works perfectly fine. It was something in the duplication that has caused this.

No matter, it's only an APP I use here at home, so I can run it from the DEV Edition. I'm pretty much calling it a day on this mystery. : )

check the user account for the runtime has permission to access the destination folder.

Depends how you do the duplication, good buddy.
How did you go about the process?
You can get "corpses" in the new instance which you won't want.
Did you edit the script and then run a "Compact"?

Please let us know what you did when duplicating so others can follow he thread, which is interesting.

I think we're missing some important data.
Either the data is going somewhere else, or the function is failing.
That information can usually lead to the answer.
                        Code:
                        ?dir_put("c:\downloads\lostdata")
ERROR: The system cannot find the file specified.
                        C:\DOWNLOADS\LOSTDATA

What are you doing out of bed on a Sunday, Greg?
Well if the originator is happy to join back into the mystery, we will find out.

                          Logical process would be;
                          Test for file presence
                          If not exist, create
If exist ask what to do

Then manage the process once the housekeeping is done.

I stiil think the cloned app is using the original code and looking at the settings in the original folder structure.
