Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Free or cheap UPC-A barcode font

    Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone knows of free or cheap UPC-A .
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Nick:

It's a font and an algorithm. There are 4 character sets and a few markers in the font, and the function determines what character goes where.

Search on Ira Perlow - he sells an addin.

I built my own, but it's pretty complex. I also set up for UPC-E, since the two go hand-in-hand.

I'd offer some help, but I didn't build portable functions. Ira's is very reasonably priced.

You may also need to have the check digit verified when a user manually enters a UPC to be certain it was entered without err. Ira has that, too.

Here's Ira's function in the code library:

I do not see any free UPC-A fonts anywhere. If you or someone finds one, please let us know where.

        Thanks Craig,
I had seen that before but like you said could not figure out the where to get the font.I also came across another function called "UPC_to_font" on another 2006 post but again could not find the
        font to use it with.

Barcode fonts are neither Free nor cheap. We had an issue with an I5of9 barcode and the price was over $200. We did find a demo version and it actually works. the only thing is that the word "DEMO" appears randomly in the barcode itself, and can sometimes mess up your scan.

Re: Free or cheap UPC-A barcode font

I download some demo fonts for test from "BarcodeWiz.com".
            https://barcodewiz.com/upc-ean-fonts-features.aspx
But I cant figure out how to format the fonts. I could could not find a .dll that can used as an assembly .
            I appreciate any help.
            Thanks,
            Nick.

Re: Free or cheap UPC-A barcode font

I'm not sure there is such a thing as a demo font.

A font is a TTF file that has glyphs in it. The glyphs may be incorrect, making it essentially a demo in that it will not produce a valid UPC-A that will scan?

So, you are saying you have a UPC-A font?

If so, use the link I posted above to download Ira's two functions. I have not tried his functions, but I bet they work.

              So:

              1) Open Word. Select the UPC-A font, and start typing. Does it look like pieces of a font are appearing?

If so, you do not need a DLL to print a 1 dimensional font. Ira's functions should translate a UPC-A from a product in your house to a group of letters and numbers, caps and small, (gibberish to you and me) that in turn, will produce a valid barcode when you copy and paste that gibberish into Word and set it to the UPC-A font.

Now, your font may not produce a real font, because it is a trial with incorrect or missing glyphs.

Also, your font may be mapped differently than Ira's font was. If that is the case, you need to map the function to your font. (His font may, for example, type a thin bar and a thick bar when you type the letter J. Your font may produce a thick bar followed by a thin bar. This is just an explanation of how two fonts may be mapped to different keys on the keyboard - I'm not saying the two examples are actual parts of a UPC-A, persay.)

Hope that helps, but the UPC-A design was deliberately made to be difficult to produce so people didn't print their own and slap it on retail items to get things like a chainsaw for the price of a screwdriver.

If you get it work work in Word, it's easy to get it to work in Alpha.

                Thanks Criag,
After spendings a day on trying to
Use the windows sdks "resgn.exe" and
"La.exe" to convert the .resx resource file
Provided by font supplier, with no Luck.
I did what I should have done from the
Beginning. I opened one of the vb.net provided in examples by the supplier in
Vb express and saved the class I needed
In a dll. I was able to open my dell as assembly in
Alpha and can use the vb.net function to format
                The font.
                Thanks,
                Nick
