Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Help to Translate VBA to Xbasic

    Hello everyone!

    I have this barcode problem I have been struggling with for months. I want to provide a part number and get a proper barcode out of it. This can be done in the report section by using a barcode font. However, you need the right font AND it just doesn't work in A5. However, I did get the barcode to work in Excel with a VBA script. I've now spent a lot of time trying to convert and then rewrite the VBA code into Xbasic. I also tried along the way the Vbscript function which did not work or possibly I used it incorrectly!

    Here's the VBA script...

    Public Function Lean13$(chaine$)
    'V 1.0
    'Paramètres : une chaine de 12 chiffres
    'Retour : * une chaine qui, affichée avec la police EAN13.TTF, donne le code barre
    ' * une chaine vide si paramètre fourni incorrect
    Dim i%, checksum%, first%, CodeBarre$, tableA As Boolean
    ean13$ = ""
    'Vérifier qu'il y a 12 caractères
    If Len(chaine$) = 12 Then
    'Et que ce sont bien des chiffres
    For i% = 1 To 12
    If Asc(Mid$(chaine$, i%, 1)) < 48 Or Asc(Mid$(chaine$, i%, 1)) > 57 Then
    i% = 0
    Exit For
    End If
    Next
    If i% = 13 Then
    'Calcul de la clé de contrôle
    For i% = 2 To 12 Step 2
    checksum% = checksum% + Val(Mid$(chaine$, i%, 1))
    Next
    checksum% = checksum% * 3
    For i% = 1 To 11 Step 2
    checksum% = checksum% + Val(Mid$(chaine$, i%, 1))
    Next
    chaine$ = chaine$ & (10 - checksum% Mod 10) Mod 10
    'Le premier chiffre est pris tel quel, le deuxième vient de la table A
    CodeBarre$ = Left$(chaine$, 1) & Chr$(65 + Val(Mid$(chaine$, 2, 1)))
    first% = Val(Left$(chaine$, 1))
    For i% = 3 To 7
    tableA = False
    Select Case i%
    Case 3
    Select Case first%
    Case 0 To 3
    tableA = True
    End Select
    Case 4
    Select Case first%
    Case 0, 4, 7, 8
    tableA = True
    End Select
    Case 5
    Select Case first%
    Case 0, 1, 4, 5, 9
    tableA = True
    End Select
    Case 6
    Select Case first%
    Case 0, 2, 5, 6, 7
    tableA = True
    End Select
    Case 7
    Select Case first%
    Case 0, 3, 6, 8, 9
    tableA = True
    End Select
    End Select
    If tableA Then
    CodeBarre$ = CodeBarre$ & Chr$(65 + Val(Mid$(chaine$, i%, 1)))
    Else
    CodeBarre$ = CodeBarre$ & Chr$(75 + Val(Mid$(chaine$, i%, 1)))
    End If
    Next
    CodeBarre$ = CodeBarre$ & "*" 'Ajout séparateur central
    For i% = 8 To 13
    CodeBarre$ = CodeBarre$ & Chr$(97 + Val(Mid$(chaine$, i%, 1)))
    Next
    CodeBarre$ = CodeBarre$ & "+" 'Ajout de la marque de fin
    Lean13$ = CodeBarre$
    End If
    End If
    End Function

    Can anyone help me on this?

    Many thanks,

    Charlie
