I always give my users 1 extra to what they bought. Just something I do. One does not have to.
If they buy 5 users they get 6

They did not have throttle for runtime when I started this. I have too many apps out there to change them all now, so just kept this method.

Just like my backup sys and users system predates alpha adding them in.

Ok but the way I read this, it takes one away.

totalusers = runtimeusers+regusers+1
if var->totalusers > 13
a5.Close()
end if

If one user is using the app then the above would show a user count of 2 instead of 1, right?

Why not just use the following which should give the same results.

totalusers = runtimeusers+regusers
if var->totalusers > 12
a5.Close()
end if

You don't even need the regusers or the +1
all you would nee to check is rt users and base on those findings?
Play with it and get your own twist.
It was devised when we had max runtime users of 5-10-20 from alpha and when I was working to get our internal system going with 16 salespeople. That was back in V5 I think.
Later, runtime became unlimited, but I still have clients on the system where they paid me for 20 or 30 users.

The reason I asked is because it is YOUR code so I was just asking why you added 1 to the user count before checking if it was above a value. That is all.

I will probably use a variation of Jo's function.

Ok, the a5_registration_licenseEx_inuse requires that you include your license number in the arguments for it to work. a5_registration_license_inuse does not.

a5_registration_license_inuse is in the documentation. a5_registration_licenseEx_inuse is not.

Both ?a5_registration_licenseEx_inuse and ?a5_registration_license_inuse typed in the IW without arguments result in a "ERROR: Variable "a5_registration_licenseEx_inuse" not found." type error.

Next is the result I see in the IW:
