Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Thanks to All.

    I am trying out the various options and will keep this Thread updated.

    The Form has lots of fields and I know i can put them where I want, but on this occasion; I wanted to build a Blank Form using all fields in the Table and keep them all in Column format. The Form has 5 Pages which is a Tabbed Form as you will all know.

    Thanks again.

    Regards,

    Leslie.

    add a topofform and bottomofform object (possibly a hotspot) on the page - in the appropriate place - and have a button in the toolbar for each that activates one or the other.

    An image of your form will tell us if you are jumping around in an embedded browse or actually have a large form with many objects on it.

    As a test try this - it works great and you can see the direction it moves.

    sys_send_keys("{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}")

    robin:

    i tried to create a test form based on alphasports, it involves not just showing and hiding frames but also all involved controls snd their labels. it seems to me my way is way too complicated than the tabbed object.

    Preston, that was my finding as well - no scroll.

    GGandhi - you are not talking about a conditional object are you? I would like to see your frame example.

    Edit: I tried adding a header and footer section to a form designed to display all the fields in a column (the default form), making it 10" high.

    I added a Page Down button to the header section and had it activate the last field on the form.
    I copied that button to the footer section as Page Up and had it activate the first field on the form.
    I then set the form height to 6", selected Use Form Height, and made it sizeable.

    Using the OnKey event for the form to change the actions for the PageUp and PageDown keys should work the same without the need for buttons.

    If you look at the example in AlphaSports for the Customer Information form - you can see this in action by reducing the form a bit to make the scroll bar show. And you can test your script there.

    Here's an example form you can save to your desktop & import into AlphaSports: FormScroll.a5pkg

    I did a little testing and while the topparent:ObjectName.activate() does set the Focus to that object, it does not move, scroll the window or anything like that.

    Many thanks Guys.

    I'll try them all and see which I will use. All 3 have their merits for different Forms.

    Thanks again.

    you could use tabbed object to achieve the same effect. for some reason you do not want you could try
    place a frame in the form and copy the frame to duplicate. place controls in the frame 1 and as well as frame2 and then place two buttons.
    the first button will hide frame1 show frame2, the second one will do opposite. when all good bring the frames together. essentially this will mimic page up down
    I can do testing later on to prove this theory.

    What Robin said should work or you can even tie an onkey event telling the pageup or pagedown key to focus on the object at the top or bottom of the form.

    I have not tested this but I think it should work.

    Code:
    	IF a_user.key.value = "{down}" THEN
    	    'set a_user.key.handled = .t. to prevent the key stroke being passed on to the Form
    	    a_user.key.handled = .t.
    	    topparent:BottomObjectName.activate()
    	end if

    	IF a_user.key.value = "{up}" THEN
    	    'set a_user.key.handled = .t. to prevent the key stroke being passed on to the Form
    	    a_user.key.handled = .t.
    	    topparent:TopObjectName.activate()
    	end if

    What if you had the buttons activate a particular field or a hidden dummy button?

    is there any way known to add "Page-Up" and "Page-Down" buttons on Large Forms, so the user can Jump to Top or Bottom of a Form; rather than using Scroll Bar ?

    Many thanks in advance.
