Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Read Past End of File after Operation Saved

I am running into a problem where when I create an operation (update fields), it runs fine. After I save it and run it again, I get the read past end of file message. I've attached my database. This is the order I run the operations:

    Import from Amazon
    Shorten Amazon ID
    Last And First Name Sep
    Summarize Tax Lines
    Intersect taxlineorders

    Update Tax Fields

    Append Tax and Orders
    Export Orders and Tax
    Delete Orders
    Del Summarized Tax

The error message shows after trying to run the saved operation Update Tax Fields. What I am trying to do is get the file ready to transfer to QuickBooks. I need to separate out the tax lines because as they are right now, the tax amount is on each order line item, example

    AmazonID, Item_Price, Item_Tax
    1234567, $64.99, $3.25
    1234567, $49.99, $2.50

I need the tax lines summed and then have a new record with all the same order info (Amazon ID, etc) except I need to change the SKU, Product_Description, Quantity_Shipped and Item_Price to the tax info, i.e.:
    SkU: Amazon Sales Tax
    Product_Description: Amazon Sales Tax
    Quantity_shipped: 1
Item_Price: Total Tax for the order ($5.75 for above example)

Does anyone have any thoughts? Any help would be awesome!

Would it help if I provided any more info?

Haven't had a chance to open your database.

Are you running the operations one after the other in a script?

do you get the same results if you run them one at a time, by hand, being careful to allow the previous opn to run to completion before running the next ?

Re: Read Past End of File after Operation Saved

I haven't put them all together in a script yet, I want to have them work correctly before I do so. I am running them by hand one at a time, allowing the previous operation to finish. The only time the operation that reads past end of file works is when I create it. I create it, then save it and it works at this point. When I run all the operations in order (one at a time), that is when it has the error.

        Thanks for any help!

Re: Read Past End of File after Operation Saved

You are trying to update the Item_price field by assigning the Total_Item_Tax field value. But, it looks like the Item_price field in Amazon Tax Lines table is not wide enough to accommodate the Total_Item_Tax field value. The summary and intersect opns result in Total_Item_tax being N, 15, 2 but Item_Price is only N, 5, 2. Suggest modifying table structure in amazon_orders table to increase width for Item_price field to N, 15, 2.

            Thanks Tom-

I changed the length of the Item_Price field, but I still get the same error message after the operation is saved and run again. I actually have tried updating one field instead of the 4 fields in the Update Tax Line field and I get the same result. For example, I ran an update field to update just the sku and saved it (nothing to do with the Item_price field). Once I went back to my string of operations, it gave me the same error message.

            Any other thoughts?

                Oops.

I see that my example has similar issue after all.

This is easier to do in code, so I've written a bit for you.

Unzip and extract the attached file to an empty folder.

Open the database. Notice I've changed the name of the "amazon_tax_Lines" table to include underscores... I detest blank spaces, and at times they cause problems in alpha.

Check the code page of the control panel. You'll find the function I wrote to replace the Update_Tax_Fields operation.

To see this in action, run the intersect operation. Check table structure of the resulting table. Item_price must be N, 15, 2.

                Open interactive window.

                Type

                ?Update_tax_fields() ' <------------ Edited later

                and press enter.

Then check the table to confirm results.

                Have fun.

Thanks Tom, that worked perfectly! I'll have to start using underscores instead of spaces, thanks for the tip!
