Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Text input field selecting newest row instead of remaining empty.

In the household tab of the Intakes form of the attached database I have a button that creates a new record for the embedded browse. But, when I click in one of the fields to start filling in the data the text fields are populated by the last client entered via the browse.

I want to be able to click the "Save and New family member" button (which needs to be renamed, should just be New Member). This will add the new record to the browse and allow me to fill in the data using the form.

I've looked at event > onPush and onArrive but can not seem to find what I'm looking for. I've browsed the tutorials in the documentation and reviewed alphasports but can't find exactly the same thing.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    try:
    CONTROL_BROWSE4.new_record()
'Set 'Value' property of 'Control_browse4:Fam_first' in Form 'Intakes' .
    parentform:Control_browse4:Fam_first.value = "New one"

Don't know, how your set services is working, but seems to work for your.

I took a quick look, so take this with grain of salt. Your set structure hasn't been explained.

Check your set design and linkages. New family table records are being linked by clientid. This probably means you must start a new client record somewhere above the family table in your set structure, first. Then enter family members.

This may have nothing to do with your immediate issue, but I'm puzzled why familyid is autoincrement in the family table. I would think all members of a family would have the same familyid.

In my own work I favor doing data entry through lots of small, simple forms. Your form is large and complex. I would use it as a sort of dashboard to SHOW data, but not for data entry.

Corelius, that worked perfectly. Thank you! I need to take more time to learn the syntax of those commands.

Tom, Thanks for the input. This form is taken from the current database they are using. I would prefer a different setup as well, but they don't want it to change too much for the counselors. It has changes somewhat since I've been helping them but they want to take small steps.

You are correct that a new client record needs to be created first. I have not created that form yet. We need to have a new record for the client created every time they come in for help. The customer wants to be able to keep every piece of data pertaining to their client for every visit. This form is one piece of the puzzle.

I made the familyid autoincrement temporarily. right now I'm using that to link to the family_contact so that I can have unique contact data for each family member. the familyid carried over from an idea someone on here gave me to keep all people in one table. I tried that but the way I'm doing it makes more sense to me.

        Thanks guys!
