Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Count or Total logical fields

    I have a Desktop form that needs some totals displayed. Two examples are Number of Veterans in the household and Number of MHMR Adults.

    The Veterans information is saved in a table as Yes and No. The following expression works to get me the total:

    vets = total(general->vet='Yes',grp->servicecontrol,grp->general)+total(family->fam_vet='Yes',grp->servicecontrol,grp->family)

    But for MHMR I have a few checkboxes on the form for different services such as SSI, WIC, Medicaid, and so on. But I can not seem to get an expression to work for this. I'm having trouble with the ='T' part of the expression. The table shows T and F. So I've tried ='.T.' and ='T' and a few other but can not get it to work. Here is what I've tried:

    MHMR = count(family_srvcentry->mh_srvc='T',grp->servicecontrol,grp->family)

    I have also tried total for MHMR but can't get that to work either.

    I found the following, but If i change the field type to numeric i can not make the form control type a check box:

    Thanks!

    Re: Count or Total logical fields

    Total() was designed as a report function and is generally not suitable to form calculations. Try using tablesum() or dbsum(), likewise tablecount() or dbcount(). If it were to work it would be

    MHMR = count(family_srvcentry->mh_srvc=.T.,grp->servicecontrol,grp->family)

    no quotes necessary

    or

    MHMR = count(family_srvcentry->mh_srvc,grp->servicecontrol,grp->family)

    You don't need to check to see if a logical is true or false with =.T.

    family_srvcentry->mh_srvc = .T.

    returns .T. if family_srvcentry->mh_srvc is true

    so does

    family_srvcentry->mh_srvc
    There can be only one.

      Re: Count or Total logical fields

      Thank you for pointing me in the right direction and not just giving me an answer. Here is what I came up with to work:

      cnt_mhsrv = tablecount("family_srvcentry.dbf","mh_srvc")

      In my previous searches I did find that count and total were designed for reports not forms but I could not figure out what I needed. I found this in the wiki:

      http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/~alpha...ght=tablecount

      But I could not get it to work for me until I added the .dbf. For some reason if I only used family_srvcentry without the .dbf extension it would return the total number records in the table and not just the records marked .T.

        Actually that didn't work exactly as I needed, though it did exactly what I told it to do. This is more along the lines of what I need:

        tablecount("family_srvcentry.dbf","mh_srvc",+"clientid=1"+"intake_dt='12/12/2015'")

        The other one was counting every instance and not limiting it to the current clientid and current visit. The one state here does not work either but it gives you and idea of what I need. I think I may have designed the table incorrectly for my needs. I'm going to look at something other than an array of check boxes. Any Ideas?

        The form in question is intakes and I've uploaded a zip of the database.

          Dan,

          I can see the filter expression is wrong. Check "writing expression" from A5-Help.

          tablecount("family_srvcentry.dbf","mh_srvc",+"clientid=1"+"intake_dt='12/12/2015'")

            Your database / workspace contains 12 forms, some with the same name. Which form are you working on?

            Please take a couple of minutes and tell us exactly what you are seeking to achieve, and define all terms for us. MHMR for example means nothing to most (all?) of us. Spare no details. We don't know your application. Thanks.

              Are you looking for something like

              tablecount("family_srvcentry.dbf","mh_srvc .and. clientid=1 .and. intake_dt={12/12/2015}")
